Time-resolved fast-neutron imaging with a pulse-counting image intensifier [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A new imaging method that combines high-efficiency fast-neutron detection with sub-ns time resolution is presented. This is achieved by exploiting the high neutron detection efficiency of a thick scintillator and the fast timing capability and ...

Magnetic-field enhancement of performance of superconducting nanowire single-photon detector

open access: yes, 2018
We present SNSPDs from NbN nanowires shaped after square-spiral that allows an increase not only in critical currents but also an extension of spectral detection efficiencies by just applying an external magnetic field.

Optical edge detection based on high-efficiency dielectric metasurface

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2019
Significance Edge detection is a fundamental tool in image processing, computing, and machine vision. Compared with digital processes, optical analog approaches show enormous advantages owing to its intrinsic parallel nature for high-speed operation ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Determination of Gross Beta Activity Excluding 40K in Seawater Around Nuclear Power Plant by Cobalt Sulfide Coprecipitation Method

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu, 2022
In order to simply, quickly and efficiently evaluate the impact of nuclear power plant operation on the surrounding marine environment, a cobalt sulfide coprecipitation method was established to rapidly analyze the gross beta activity excluding 40K in ...

Arbitrary-Oriented Scene Text Detection via Rotation Proposals

open access: yes, 2018
This paper introduces a novel rotation-based framework for arbitrary-oriented text detection in natural scene images. We present the Rotation Region Proposal Networks (RRPN), which are designed to generate inclined proposals with text orientation angle ...

Detection efficiency and noise in a semi-device-independent randomness-extraction protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we analyze several critical issues in semi-device independent quantum information processing protocol. In practical experimental realization randomness generation in that scenario is possible only if the efficiency of the detectors used is

Space-Efficient Detection of Unusual Words [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Detecting all the strings that occur in a text more frequently or less frequently than expected according to an IID or a Markov model is a basic problem in string mining, yet current algorithms are based on data structures that are either space-inefficient or incur large slowdowns, and current implementations cannot scale to genomes or metagenomes in ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
