Detection efficiency calibration of single-photon silicon avalanche photodiodes traceable using double attenuator technique

open access: yesJournal of Modern Optics, 2015
A highly accurate method for the determination of the detection efficiency of a silicon single-photon avalanche diode (Si-SPAD) is presented. This method is based on the comparison of the detected count rate of the Si-SPAD compared to the photon rate ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Analysis of Radiation Methods for Explosive Materials Detection

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
The paper examines the physical aspects of some landmine detection methods based on fast neutron backscattering. An analysis of the reaction products of the interaction of fast, slow, and thermal neutrons with H, C, N, O nuclei, which are part of ...

Effective and Efficient Model Clone Detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Code clones are a major source of software defects. Thus, it is likely that model clones (i.e., duplicate fragments of models) have a significant negative impact on model quality, and thus, on any software created based on those models, irrespective of whether the software is generated fully automatically (“MDD-style”) or hand-crafted following the ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Registration of gamma radiation from the 133Ba and 134Cs decay by detectors of the Pripjat system [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Technology and Radiation Protection
Three NaI(Tl) detectors of 10 cm x 15 cm, in pairs and the three-detector system, were used to acquire spectra of 133Ba and 134Cs, and to consider registration of gamma radiation from de-excitation of their daughters (133Cs and 134Ba ...
