Structure of Detonations in Dilute Sprays

The Physics of Fluids, 1961
Solutions to the differential equations governing the structure of a steady-state detonation in a spray are obtained both numerically and by means of analytical approximations for the case in which the droplets in the spray burn heterogeneously.

Studies of Detonation Quenching by Water Sprays

Combustion Science and Technology, 1990
Abstract Methods designed to quench a detonation wave in a pipe usually rely on some passive device which often presents an unacceptable impedance to the normal pipe flow. One method which overcomes this problem is a triggered water spray barrier, the principles of which are examined in the present study.

The propagation of cylindrical detonations in monodisperse sprays

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1981
A detailed experimental study has been made of the propagation and structure of cylindrical detonations propagating through monodisperse droplet clouds of low and high vapor pressure fuels. The experiments were conducted in a 140 cm long pie-shaped shock tube using an explosive charge at the vertex as the initiator.

Detonation spraying of protective coatings

Materials Science and Engineering, 1987
Abstract Detonation gun spraying, a technique of thermal spraying, achieves well-bonded dense protective coatings through ultrahigh velocity, medium temperature deposition of powders. The powdered feedstock materials range from metallic alloys to hard ceramics, enabling wear-resistant coatings to be formed. In this paper the science and technology of

Measurement of Particle Parameters in Detonation Spraying

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2010
Abstract Measurement of the particle temperature and velocity in detonation spraying is significantly complicated by the pulsed character of the process. In the present study, these parameters are measured for powders with strongly different nature and properties such as WC/Co, Inox and Ti.

Bonding of detonation-sprayed coatings

Thin Solid Films, 1978
Abstract Generally it has been presumed that the high bond strength of detonation-sprayed coatings is related to the high kinetic energy stored in each particle during acceleration and released as heat on impact with the substrate. An investigation was conducted to define the basic technological parameters of detonation spraying that determine the ...

Powder velocity in the detonation spraying of coatings

Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1979
1. An analysis of methods of measuring the powder velocity in the detonation spraying of coatings has revealed some drawbacks of the revolving disk method. 2. The claim that the adhesion of a detonation-sprayed coating to its substrate depends solely on the velocity imparted to the powder particles by the detonation products is shown to ...

Metering devices for detonation spray deposition

Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1979
1. Two metering devices for automatic detonation plants operating at firing rates ranging from 0.5 to 5 detonations per second are described, and their optimum fields of application are indicated. 2. Data are given on the flow rate characteristics and conditions of stable operation of these metering devices.

Sai Coating: Detonation Spray Gun

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, 2023
Sai Coating, a small entrepreneurial firm, was one of the three firms that had received the license from ARCI for marketing the Detonation Spray Coating (DSC). Sai Coating made and sold the detonation gun (D-Gun) to three sectors, namely: Wire Drawing, Textiles and Aero components.

Evaluation of Hazard of Spray Detonation

1999
Phenomenon of propagation of self-sustaining detonation-like waves in suspensions of condensed fuel or oxidiser in atmosphere of another component is called heterogeneous detonation. In contrast to gaseous detonation being investigated since the end of XIX century, the first experimental evidences of detonation wave (DW) existence in a shock tube in ...
