An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

A STUDY OF THE «I-CONCEPT» OF SCHOOLCHILDREN WITH DEVIANT BEHAVIOR

open access: yesRussian Journal of Education and Psychology
Background. Changes in the formation of the «I-concept» can lead to deviant behavior. Deviant behavior of children is a problem, as identification and correction requires a lot of effort. Deviant behavior can manifest itself in different behaviors.

Classifying Hypersexuality as Deviant Behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Our culture has a normative perception of sex as an essential act used to procreate. When men and women deviate from this behavior and engage in excessive sex with multiple partners this can be viewed as "deviant". This deviance is termed as "hypersexual"

Electronic correlations in vanadium chalcogenides: BaVSe3 versus BaVS3

open access: yes, 2010
Albeit structurally and electronically very similar, at low temperature the quasi-one-dimensional vanadium sulfide BaVS3 shows a metal-to-insulator transition via the appearance of a charge-density-wave state, while BaVSe3 apparently remains metallic ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
