The role of dexmedetomidine in neurosurgery
Dexmedetomidine can be used for sedation and analgesia and has been approved for this use by the European Medicines Agency since 2017. It causes an arousable state of sedation, which is beneficial during neurosurgical procedures that require the patient to cooperate with neurological tests (i.e. tumor surgery or implantation of deep brain stimulators).

Dexmedetomidine does not produce vasocontraction on human isolated gastroepiploic artery [PDF]
BackgroundRecently, the addition of dexmedetomidine to sedation regimens after cardiac surgery had been reported and there is a possibility that dexmedetomidine can cause vasoconstriction.

Hypothermia, shivering, and dexmedetomidine [PDF]
CC Postoperative temperature is increasingly used to indicate the quality of anesthesia. Anesthesiologists should measure and record the body temperature of their patients perioperatively and maintain it within normal limits. Hypothermia is usually defined as a body temperature less than 36 o C and occurs commonly during surgery [1].

Abstract Objective During the surgical procedure of deep brain stimulation (DBS), insertion of an electrode in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) frequently causes a temporary improvement of motor symptoms, known as the microlesion effect (MLE). The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between the intraoperative MLE and the clinical ...

Dexmedetomidine Inhibits Maturation and Function of Human Cord Blood-Derived Dendritic Cells by Interfering with Synthesis and Secretion of IL-12 and IL-23. [PDF]
To investigate the effects and underlying mechanism of dexmedetomidine on the cultured human dendritic cells (DCs).Human DCs and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) were obtained from human cord blood mononuclear cells by density gradient centrifugation ...
