Cytosolic Uptake of Large Monofunctionalized Dextrans

open access: yes, 2018
Dextrans are a versatile class of polysaccharides with applications that span medicine, cell biology, food science, and consumer goods. Here, we report on a new type of large monofunctionalized dextran that exhibits unusual properties: efficient ...

High and Low Molecular Weight Fluorescein Isothiocyanate (FITC)–Dextrans to Assess Blood-Brain Barrier Disruption: Technical Considerations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This note is to report how histological preparation techniques influence the extravasation pattern of the different molecular sizes of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-dextrans, typically used as markers for blood-brain barrier leakage.

Test of the 'glymphatic' hypothesis demonstrates diffusive and aquaporin-4-independent solute transport in rodent brain parenchyma

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Transport of solutes through brain involves diffusion and convection. The importance of convective flow in the subarachnoid and paravascular spaces has long been recognized; a recently proposed ‘glymphatic’ clearance mechanism additionally suggests that ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Large molecules from the cerebrospinal fluid enter the optic nerve but not the retina of mice

open access: yesFluids and Barriers of the CNS
It has been proposed that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can enter and leave the retina and optic nerve along perivascular spaces surrounding the central retinal vessels as part of an aquaporin-4 (AQP4) dependent ocular ‘glymphatic’ system.

Transdermal delivery of FITC-Dextrans with different molecular weights using radiofrequency microporation

open access: yesBiomaterials Research, 2020
Background Transdermal delivery is of great importance for the effective delivery of bioactive or therapeutic agents into a body. The microporation device based on radiofrequency can be used to enhance delivery efficiency by removing the epidermis layer.

Aqueous Angiography: Real-Time and Physiologic Aqueous Humor Outflow Imaging. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
PURPOSE:Trabecular meshwork (TM) bypass surgeries attempt to enhance aqueous humor outflow (AHO) to lower intraocular pressure (IOP). While TM bypass results are promising, inconsistent success is seen.
