Calibration of ultrafiltration membranes against size exclusion chromatography columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Using the extension of the concept of universal calibration parameter, yielding a relation between the hydrodynamic volume of molecules and the elution volume in sizeexclusionchromatography (SEC), to retention coefficients in ultrafiltration (UF), we ...

Cold Quad‐Modal Nanocomplex for Precise and Quantitative In Vivo Stem Cell Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multimodal albumin–bismuth sulfide–superparamagnetic iron oxide (ABS) nanocomplexes are developed for stem cell tracking across four different imaging modalities: MRI, MPI, MSOT, and CT. Combining its flexibility with high sensitivity, this quad‐modal imaging agent enables a robust quantification of ABS‐labeled stem cells in vivo.

Sex differences in stroke outcome correspond to rapid and severe changes in gut permeability in adult Sprague-Dawley rats

open access: yesBiology of Sex Differences, 2021
Background Sex differences in experimental stroke outcomes are well documented, such that adult males have a greater infarct volume, increased stroke-induced mortality, and more severe sensory-motor impairment. Based on recent evidence that the gut is an

Different VL and VH germ-line genes are used to produce similar combining sites with specificity for alpha(1----6)dextrans.

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 1987
Monoclonal antibodies to alpha(1----6)dextrans produced in mice immunized with the T-independent antigens alpha(1----6)dextran or the stearylisomaltosyl oligosaccharides have been characterized immunochemically. To correlate the immunochemical properties

An Ultrafast Self‐Gelling Versatile Hydrogel for Rapid Infected Burn Wound Repair in Military Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐gelling PG@PAC (POD/Gel‐CDH@PA/CHX) powder is developed for infected burn care in austere settings. Upon contact with wound exudate, it instantly forms an adhesive hydrogel, providing simultaneous hemostasis, broad‐spectrum antibacterial activity, reactive oxygen species scavenging, and immunomodulation. In a murine model of S.

Increased Plasma Colloid Osmotic Pressure Facilitates the Uptake of Therapeutic Macromolecules in a Xenograft Tumor Model

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2009
Elevated tumor interstitial fluid pressure (TIFP) is a characteristic of most solid tumors. Clinically, TIFP may hamper the uptake of chemotherapeutic drugs into the tumor tissue reducing their therapeutic efficacy.

Gold Nanoclusters as Dual Agents for Engineering Tumor Vascular Leakiness and Performing Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Many cancer nanotherapeutics, while potent, suffer from the inability to escape from the tumor vasculature, especially in the absence of endothelial permeability. In this work, ultrasmall gold nanoclusters could engineer nanomaterials induced endothelial leakiness (NanoEL) and harness strong NIR induced photothermal characteristics to suppress tumor ...

Blood-brain barrier disruption in CCL2 transgenic mice during pertussis toxin-induced brain inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: The chemokine CCL2 has an important role in the recruitment of inflammatory cells into the central nervous system (CNS). A transgenic mouse model that overexpresses CCL2 in the CNS shows an accumulation of leukocytes within the perivascular ...

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...
