Abstract Okadaic acid (OA) and its analogs, dinophysistoxins-1 (DTX1) and -2 (DTX2) are lipophilic biotoxins produced by marine algae that can accumulate in shellfish and cause the human illness known as diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP).

Pathogenic Vibrio species isolated from aquaculture environments in low‐ and middle‐income countries exhibit elevated antimicrobial resistance and multiple virulence traits. These findings highlight significant risks to fish health and food safety, underscoring the need for strengthened antimicrobial stewardship, robust biosecurity measures and ...

Dinophysis Toxins: Causative Organisms, Distribution and Fate in Shellfish
Several Dinophysis species produce diarrhoetic toxins (okadaic acid and dinophysistoxins) and pectenotoxins, and cause gastointestinal illness, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning (DSP), even at low cell densities (<103 cells·L−1). They are the main threat,

Analysis of Istrian shellfish breeding areas for (DSP) shellfish toxicity were recorded in summer and autumn 2005 as part of Croatian shellfish breeding areas monitoring programme. As well as analysis of Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP), diarhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) and Amnesic shellfish poisoning (ASP) through mouse bioassay, analysis of ...

Dietary selenium (Se) deficiency is recognized as a global problem, and exogenous Se supplementation can effectively enrich its levels in animal bodies. Offal tissues are equally important as meat in Se enrichment. Varying properties among Se species require information beyond total Se concentration to fully evaluate health risk/benefits.

Species‐specific 16S‐23S ITS and antibiotic resistance IntI, blaCTX‐M, blaTEM and blaSHV genes of Klebsiella pneumoniae were detected, and most of the isolates were multidrug‐resistant. Target hazard quotient values of Fe for >1 revealed a higher level of hazard index. Target cancer risk values of Fe exceeded the recommended value (<10−4).

The dinoflagellate Dinophysis is responsible for causing diarrhetic shellfish poisoning impacting shellfish aquaculture globally. Dinophysis species are invariably plastidic specialist non-constitutive mixoplankton (pSNCM), combining phagotrophy with ...
