New Thermally Irreversible and Fluorescent Photochromic Diarylethenes

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2008
A photokinetic investigation is here carried out on four newly synthesized diarylethenes with the aim to test their performance as photoreversible chromogenic and light emitting materials. The pentatomic ring, which fixes these diarylethenes in the cis conformation, contains a Si atom or a PO group.

Study on Photochromic Diarylethene with Phenolic Schiff Base:  Preparation and Photochromism of Diarylethene with Benzoxazole

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2004
A photochromic diarylethene with phenolic Schiff base 1a can be easily transformed to photochromic diarylethene with benzoxazole 3a in the conditions of base and phototrigger. Both of their photochromic properties are investigated. They show that the conversions of ring-open form to ring-closed form at photostationary equilibrium are ca.

A Novel Unsymmetrical Photochromic Diarylethene

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
A novel unsymmetrical diarylethene derivative bearing both phenyl and thiophene moieties, in which a chlorine group was substituted at the para-positions of the terminal phenyl ring, was synthesized. At the same time, its photochromic properties and fluorescence switch were investigated in detail.

Photochromism of Single Crystalline Diarylethenes

Chemistry Letters, 1995
Abstract 1,2-Bis(2,4-dimethy-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene was found to undergo a reversible photochromic reaction in a single crystalline phase with rotation of the thiophene rings. Both the open-ring colorless and the photogenerated red isomers were thermally stable even at 100 °C.

Fluorescent Photochromic Diarylethene Oligomers

2003
Fluorescent photochromic materials collect strong interest for their capability of controlling fluorescence by photochromic conversion of materials. In particular fluorescent diarylethenes, which shows reversible change in fluorescence intensity with photochromic reaction, are useful for light probe and non-destructive optical readout system.1 Since ...

Hybrid Organic–Inorganic Photon-Powered Actuators Based on Aligned Diarylethene Nanocrystals

Chemistry of Materials, 2019
When photochromic molecules are organized in a crystal, the small-scale forces generated by molecular photoisomerization events can combine together to generate work on micro- or macroscopic length scales.

Photochromic diarylethene molecules and crystals

Pure and Applied Chemistry, 2009
Abstract Some of the diarylethene derivatives were found to undergo photoisomerization reactions between two isomers even in the single-crystalline phase. The two isomers have different electronic as well as geometrical structures. The electronic structure change induces the reversible color change of the crystal.

Structure Switching and Modulation of the Magnetic Properties in Diarylethene-Bridged Metallosupramolecular Compounds by Controlled Coordination-Driven Self-Assembly.

Angewandte Chemie, 2019
We report three self-assembled iron complexes that comprised an anti-parallel open form (o-Lanti ), a parallel open form (o-Lsyn ), and a closed form (c-L) of diarylethene conformers.

Photocyclization Dynamics of Diarylethene

2020
The focus of this chapter is a study that uses UED to probe the atomic motions that take place during the ‘photocyclization’ or photoinduced ring-closing reaction of the molecule 1,2-bis(2,4-dimethyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene, herein abbreviated to PFC.
