Usefulness of the APTT waveform for the diagnosis of DIC and prediction of the outcome or bleeding risk

open access: yesThrombosis Journal, 2019
BackgroundThe usefulness of the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) waveform has been reported in hemophilia, acquired hemophilia and monitoring for anticoagulants.Material and methodsThe APTT waveform was examined in patients suspected of ...

Elimination of Necking and Aspect Ratio Dependence in Uniaxial Actuators by Continuous Fiber Reinforcement

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A novel carbon fiber reinforcement for dielectric elastomer actuators enhances actuation force while decoupling electromechanical performance from the actuator's aspect ratio. Unlike conventional fiber reinforcements, it enables a uniform planar stretch state along the entire actuator.

Magnetic Field Driven Microrobot Based on Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐based magnetic microrobots synergize remote magnetic control with the biocompatibility of flexible hydrogels, emerging as promising tools for minimally invasive biomedicine. This enables remotely controllable, untethered navigation within complex biological microenvironments.

A Study on Pregnancy with Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation and its Fetomaternal Outcome

open access: yesNational Board of Examinations Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Obstetric bleeding continues to be the leading cause of maternal death worldwide, and the cornerstone of treatment is early detection of the factors that contribute to hemorrhage and early management of the underlying pathological process ...

Mechanism Underlying Heat Stability of the Rice Endosperm Cytosolic ADP-Glucose Pyrophosphorylase

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Rice grains accumulate starch as their major storage reserve whose biosynthesis is sensitive to heat. ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) is among the starch biosynthetic enzymes severely affected by heat stress during seed maturation. To increase the

Density imaging of heterochromatin in live cells using orientation-independent-DIC microscopy

open access: yesMolecular Biology of the Cell, 2017
Using orientation-independent-DIC microscopy, we revealed that the density of total materials in heterochromatin was only 1.53-fold higher than that of euchromatin, whereas the DNA density was 7.5-fold higher.

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.

Thrombomodulin: A key regulator of intravascular blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, and inflammation, and a treatment for disseminated intravascular coagulation

open access: yesProceedings of the Japan Academy. Series B, Physical and Biological Sciences
Thrombomodulin (TM) is an important regulator of intravascular blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, and inflammation. TM inhibits the procoagulant and proinflammatory activities of thrombin and promotes the thrombin-induced activation of protein C (PC) bound

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

Experimental characterisation of fatigue crack growth based on the CTOD measured from crack tip displacement fields using DIC

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2019
The current work presents an experimental study on the use of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) to evaluate its ability to characterise fatigue crack growth.
