Liquid‐phase oxidation of furfural catalyzed by magnetically separable metal oxide nanoparticles deposited on silica gel

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Oxidation of furfural (FF), a bio‐based platform chemical, was investigated using a range of iron‐, vanadium‐ and iron–zinc‐oxalates supported on silica gel (FeVOx@silica and FeZnOx@silica, respectively) as precursor for FeV@silica and FeZn@silica oxide catalysts and H2O2 as a green oxidant.

Multifunctional Design of Solid Polymer Electrolytes: Paving the Way for High‐Performance All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This review provides a comprehensive and systematic overview of the multifunctional design strategies for solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs), a pivotal component for enabling high‐performance all‐solid‐state batteries (ASSBs). It begins with a detailed classification of SPE systems and elaborates on their respective molecular design principles. The work

Molecular distributions of dicarboxylic acids, ketocarboxylic acids and α-dicarbonyls in biomass burning aerosols: implications for photochemical production and degradation in smoke layers [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2010
Aerosols in the size class <2.5 μm (6 daytime and 9 nighttime samples) were collected at a pasture site in Rondônia, Brazil, during the intensive biomass burning period of 16–26 September 2002 as part of the Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere ...

Methyl on the Bridge: 2‐Methyl Propellane as Precursor for 1,3‐Substituted 2‐Methylated Bicyclo[1.1.1]Pentanes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The synthesis of 2‐methyl propellane and its conversion to various 1,2‐ and 1,2,3‐di‐ and trisubstituted bicyclopentanes is reported. Abstract Bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (BCPs) have emerged as isosteric replacements for mono‐ and para‐substituted benzene rings in medicinal and materials applications, involving substitution at the BCP bridgehead (1,3 ...

Synthesis of Dithienylcycloalkene Molecular Switches Enabled by a Bench‐Stable Ti‐Complex

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Herein we report a set of cycloalkene‐bridged DTEs with ring sizes ranging from 4‐ to 7‐membered rings. The synthesis of these analogs was performed via a key McMurry coupling step, which was enabled by a practical, bench‐stable Ti(IV)‐complex. Remarkably, it is shown that the strained cyclobutene bridge outperforms other rings, even the most commonly ...

Enzymology of dicarboxylic acid metabolism in Corynebacterium sp. strain 7E1C [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
1.Dicarboxylic acid metabolism was investigated in the alkane-utilizing bacterium Corynebacterium 7E1C.2.The best yields of dicarboxylic acid were obtained during growth on dodecane although significant amounts of tetradecanedioic acid were produced ...

Transitioning Formamide Solvothermal Syntheses of MOFs to Less Toxic Solvents

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic Frameworks (MOFs) are commonly synthesized in toxic formamide solvents. This study investigates the synthetic factors required for effective removal of formamides across various classes of MOFs, providing a foundation for designing new sustainable MOF syntheses.

Tetrazine Ligation in Living Systems: Beyond Fast Kinetics to Effective Bioorthogonality

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Rapid reaction kinetics (k2) alone do not ensure successful tetrazine ligation in living systems. This review introduces ‘effective orthogonality’—focusing on chemical survival, availability, and encounter—as a practical framework. We highlight how bottlenecks shift from cellular sinks to in vivo delivery limits, offering design strategies for reliable
