Diabetes preventive gluten-free diet decreases the number of caecal bacteria in non-obese diabetic mice

open access: yes, 2006
Background A gluten-free diet reduces the incidence of diabetes mellitus in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice, but the mechanism is not known. The aim of this study was to examine the possible influence of the diet on the caecal bacterial flora, which may ...

Rat Models of Diet-Induced Obesity and High Fat/Low Dose Streptozotocin Type 2 Diabetes: Effect of Reversal of High Fat Diet Compared to Treatment with Enalapril or Menhaden Oil on Glucose Utilization and Neuropathic Endpoints

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, 2015
We examined whether reversal of high fat diet, stimulating weight loss, compared to two treatments previously shown to have beneficial effects, could improve glucose utilization and peripheral neuropathy in animal models of obesity and type 2 diabetes ...

GaSex Nanoparticles Modulate Neutrophil Function and Mitigate NET‐Driven Osteogenic Impairment in Osteomyelitis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) emerge as a critical repair‐limiting factor in osteomyelitis, driving osteoblast mitochondrial dysfunction and excessive PINK1/Parkin‐mediated mitophagy. Gallium–selenium nanoparticles (GaSex) scavenge reactive oxygen species, redirect neutrophils from NETosis toward bactericidal phagocytosis, eliminate methicillin‐

comparison of serum visfatin levels in restricted diet rats,type2 diabetic rats and insulin resistance rats with normal rats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biomedical Sciences, 2015
Background and Purpose: Adipose tissue is not only a site of triglycerides storage, but also an active endocrine organ that secretes many biologically active mediators refered to as "adipokines".

Region‐Specific Profiling of the Gut Microbiome and Metabolite Landscape in Response to Dietary Intervention Using Electronics‐Free Ingestible Smart Sampling Capsules

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Region‐specific profiling of the gut microbiome is achieved non‐invasively using electronics‐free ingestible sampling capsules that activate at defined intestinal sites through stimuli‐responsive coatings. Deployed in a porcine dietary intervention model, the capsules resolve spatially distinct, fiber‐driven shifts in microbial composition and short ...

Rab1A Promotes Hepatic Steatosis by Suppressing Mitophagy via the Raf‐1/ERK1/2/PINK1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Why does fat accumulate in the liver? Our study reveals Rab1A as the molecular switch that silences the cell's mitochondrial cleanup crew. Turning Rab1A off reactivates mitophagy, clears excess fat, and reverses fatty liver disease in mice—offering a promising new therapeutic target for MASLD, a growing global health challenge.
