Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Effects of Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Synbiotics on the Bodyweight, Blood Glucose, Triglyceride and TNF-α of Diet-induced Obesity Rats

open access: yesQanun Medika: Jurnal Kedokteran Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya, 2020
High-fat diet leads to obesity-associated chronic low-grade inflammation. Prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics produced short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), bonded to G protein-coupled receptors (GPR)-41 and GPR-43 decreased triglyceride deposits in ...

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Maternal high-fat diet associated with altered gene expression, DNA methylation, and obesity risk in mouse offspring. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
We investigated maternal obesity in inbred SM/J mice by assigning females to a high-fat diet or a low-fat diet at weaning, mating them to low-fat-fed males, cross-fostering the offspring to low-fat-fed SM/J nurses at birth, and weaning the offspring onto

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Impact of maternal high‐fat diet on offspring gut microbiota during short‐term high‐fat diet exposure in mice

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
Alterations in the gut microbiome have been linked to obesity, with maternal high‐fat diet (HF) playing a role in shaping offspring microbiome composition.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effects of Persian leek (Allium ampeloprasum) on hepatic lipids and the expression of proinflammatory gene in hamsters fed a high-fat/ high-cholesterol diet [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, 2016
Objective: Persian leek is one of the most widely used herbal foods among Iranians. In this study, effects of oral administration of Persian leek on plasma and liver lipids were examined in hamster.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Hemin Improves Insulin Sensitivity in Skeletal Muscle in High Fat–Fed Mice

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2014
.: The present study examined whether hemin could prevent the development of high-fat diet–induced insulin resistance in the liver and skeletal muscle using a hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp.
