Errors in the interpretation of dietary assessments
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1997Two years ago, I reviewed the analytic effect of error in the estimation of dietary intake, describing the emphasis on the "random" day-to-day variation in reported intake. Interest in this area is increasing and there are signs of progress in analytic strategies. This paper focuses on two concerns about the use of dietary data in analyses.

RETROSPECTIVE ASSESSMENT OF DIETARY INTAKE
American Journal of Epidemiology, 1984In studying the role of diet in chronic disease etiology, measurement of past intake may be of more relevance than measurement of that existing either at the time of or just preceding the clinical onset of disease. In 1983, in metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia, estimates of current and previous dietary intake were obtained, by use of a ...

Future of dietary exposure assessment
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995Nutritional epidemiology depends on valid assessment of exposure of individuals to food-borne factors. The tools being applied are generally blunt instruments that are simple for the scientist to administer and analyze. The burden of aggregating foods, combining amounts, drawing on episodic or generic memory, and interpreting the questions is placed on

Applications of Dietary Reference Intakes in dietary assessment and planning
Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, 2006Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) are used for assessing and planning diets of individuals and groups. Assessing individual intakes is complicated by the fact that neither the individual's usual nutrient intake nor their individual requirement is known. However, the degree of confidence that intakes are adequate or excessive can be estimated. Assessing

The School Nutrition Dietary Assessment Study
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995Over the past century, the United States has undergone four school nutrition revolutions (1). The first, in the late 19th century, came with the realization that some poor children needed school meals. This was a radical idea at a time when schooling itself was still a novelty for many Americans.

Dietary Pesticide Risk Assessment
1992In this review, the process of dietary pesticide risk assessment has been presented and three major components of the process--estimation of pesticide residue levels, estimation of food consumption patterns, and characterization of risk based on a comparison of exposure estimates with toxicological criteria--have been identified.

Among the prerenal risk factors of stone disease, diet plays an important role. Various interventional studies have provided evidence that appropriate dietary modifications can reduce the risk of stone formation and recurrence rate. Individualized dietary recommendations should be offered to patients according to their stone type, specific metabolic ...
