Endocannabinoid signaling in the gut mediates preference for dietary unsaturated fats
Dietary fat exerts a potent stimulatory effect on feeding. This effect is mediated, at least in part, by a cephalic mechanism that involves recruitment of the vagus nerve and subsequent activation of endocannabinoid signaling in the gut.

BackgroundPartial hepatectomy is a preferred treatment option for many patients with hepatocellular carcinoma however, pre-existing pathological abnormalities originating from hepatic steatosis can alter the decision to perform surgery or postoperative outcomes as a consequence of the impact steatosis has on liver regeneration.AimThe aim of this study ...

Prediction of naturally-occurring, industrially-induced and total trans fatty acids in butter, dairy spreads and Cheddar cheese using vibrational spectroscopy and multivariate data analysis [PDF]
peer-reviewedThis study investigated the use of vibrational spectroscopy [near infrared (NIR), Fourier-transform mid-infrared (FT-MIR), Raman] and multivariate data analysis for (1) quantifying total trans fatty acids (TT), and (2) separately predicting ...

Fatty acids from diet and microbiota regulate energy metabolism [version 1; referees: 2 approved]
A high-fat diet and elevated levels of free fatty acids are known risk factors for metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and visceral obesity. Although these disease associations are well established, it is unclear how different dietary fats change the

Background A moderate intake of unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) is associated positively with improved insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the dietary intake of unsaturated fatty acids/total fats (UFA/TF ...

Dietary saturated and unsaturated fats as determinants of blood pressure and vascular function [PDF]
The amount and type of dietary fat have long been associated with the risk of CVD. Arterial stiffness and endothelial dysfunction are important risk factors in the aetiology of CHD. A range of methods exists to assess vascular function that may be used in nutritional science, including clinic and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, pulse wave ...

Polyunsaturated fatty acids influence offspring sex ratio in cows [PDF]
Dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) can influence fertility in farm animals. Some evidence in mice and sheep have suggested that PUFAs may influence offspring sex ratio, which may have significant value for cattle production.

Oils and fats on food: is it possible to have a healthy diet? [PDF]
Oils and fats are an important part of our diet as components of many food formulations. Thus, they are retailed for domestic or hostelry uses and broadly used by food industry for the elaboration of margarines, ice cream, canned food, pre-cooked ...

Influence of Dietary Saturated and Unsaturated Fats on Blood Coagulation In Miniature Pigs.
SummaryMiniature pigs maintained for one year on diets containing 15% of either beef tallow or safflower oil did not exhibit lipemia in the fasting state, yet the clotting time was much shorter in the tallow group than in the safflower group. The clotting time was shortened 3 hours after ingestion of either fat, but the effect produced by the saturated
