Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccination at birth and differential white blood cell count in infancy. A randomised clinical trial

open access: yes, 2020
Background: The Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine against tuberculosis (TB) may have beneficial non-specific effects (NSEs) beyond the protection against TB. This may be related to modifications of the innate immune system. We investigated the effect

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

White blood cell differential count in rabbits artificially infected with intestinal coccidia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
application/pdfThe aim of the present study was to examine the effect of intestinal coccidia upon the white cell count and differential leukocyte count of the infected rabbits. Two groups of rabbits were infected with various doses of intestinal coccidia

UMI-count modeling and differential expression analysis for single-cell RNA sequencing

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2018
Read counting and unique molecular identifier (UMI) counting are the principal gene expression quantification schemes used in single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Evaluation of Hematological Parameters in Children with Idiopathic Facial Paralysis: A Case-control Study

open access: yesHaseki Tıp Bülteni
Aim:Idiopathic peripheral facial paralysis [Bell’s palsy (BP)] is the most common cause of acute, one-sided facial paralysis, whose etiopathogenesis is currently unknown. However, inflammation is considered to play a role in etiopathogenesis.

Total cell quantification in Cerebrospinal Fluid: Can Alinity hq be an effective alternative?

open access: yesRevSALUS
Introduction: Cell quantification in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a critical method for the diagnosis of subarachnoid bleeding, neuro-inflammatory and neoplastic pathologies.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.
