Design of Few-Mode Fibers With M-modes and Low Differential Mode Delay [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2014
In this paper, we investigate the design of few-mode fibers (FMFs) guiding 2 to 12 linearly polarized (LP) modes with low differential mode delay (DMD) over the C-band, suitable for long-haul transmission. Two different types of refractive index profile have been considered: a graded-core with a cladding trench (GCCT) profile and a multi-step-index ...

Delay differential equations for mode-locked semiconductor lasers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2004
We propose a new model for passive mode locking that is a set of ordinary delay differential equations. We assume a ring-cavity geometry and Lorentzian spectral filtering of the pulses but do not use small gain and loss and weak saturation approximations. By means of a continuation method, we study mode-locking solutions and their stability.

Inverse Saturable Absorption Mechanism in Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers with a Nonlinear Amplifying Loop Mirror

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
From the perspective of the differential phase delay experienced by the two counterpropagating optical fields, the self-starting of the mode-locked fiber laser with a non-linear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) is theoretically studied.

Dependence of Dynamics of a System of Two Coupled Generators with Delayed Feedback on the Sign of Coupling

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
In this paper, we study the nonlocal dynamics of a system of delay differential equations with large parameters. This system simulates coupled generators with delayed feedback. Using the method of steps, we construct asymptotics of solutions.

Design of Silica Multimode Optical Fibers with Extremely Enlarged Core Diameter for Laser-Based Multi-Gigabit Short-Range Optical Networks

open access: yesPhotonics, 2018
This work presents an alternative fast and simple method for the design of a refractive index profile of silica multimode optical fibers (MMFs) with extremely enlarged core diameters of up to 100 µm for laser-based multi-gigabit short-range optical

Dynamics Simulation and Experimental Investigation of Q-Switching in a Self-Mode-Locked Semiconductor Disk Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
Q-switching in a mode-locked laser not only makes the amplitude of every single output pulse unequal, but also limits the time width and peak power of output pulses.

Theoretical studies on a (FGPM) system with Gaussian profile for a zero TCD SAW devices

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
We investigate the propagation of surface wave in a functionally graded piezoelectric material layer ZnO/AlN/ZnO on α-Al2O3 substrate in this study. The influence of buffer layer thickness on the temperature coefficient of delay (TCD) is studied.

A Common-Mode Noise Suppression Filter for Gigahertz Differential Signals Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide Resonators

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A common-mode noise suppression filter for microstrip differential lines based on substrate integrated waveguide resonator (SIWR) is proposed in this article. The proposed common-mode filter (CMF) consists of cascaded SIWR units with different size.

Delay-induced dynamics and jitter reduction of passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers subject to optical feedback

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2012
We study a passively mode-locked semiconductor ring laser subject to optical feedback from an external mirror. Using a delay differential equation model for the mode-locked laser, we are able to systematically investigate the resonance effects of the ...
