Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Determination of the most appropriate method for extrapolating overall survival data from a placebo-controlled clinical trial of lenvatinib for progressive, radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Cost-effectiveness models for the treatment of long-term conditions often require information on survival beyond the period of available data.

[Differentiated thyroid cancers].

open access: yesIl Giornale di chirurgia, 2009
The Authors, after a review of the topic of thyroid cancer, focus on the epidemiology, aetiology and diagnosis of well-differentiated thyroid cancers. They then describe their own case series and their many years' experience in treating the patients affected by this pathology, which is generally regarded as having low malignancy.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Mediastinal Images Resembling Thymus Following 131-I Treatment for Thyroid Cancer

open access: yesMonaldi Archives for Chest Disease, 2005
The follow-up of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer conventionally includes serum thyroglobulin and periodic Whole Body Scans. The uptake of 131-I in normal and pathological tissues different from metastatic thyroid cancer sites is a cause of false-positive ...

BAC-FISH assays delineate complex chromosomal rearrangements in a case of post-Chernobyl childhood thyroid cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Structural chromosome aberrations are known hallmarks of many solid tumors. In the papillary form of thyroid cancer (PTC), for example, activation of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) genes, RET and neurotrophic tyrosine kinase receptor type I (NTRK1)

TTF-1/p63-positive poorly differentiated NSCLC: A histogenetic hypothesis from the basal reserve cell of the terminal respiratory unit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
TTF-1 is expressed in the alveolar epithelium and in the basal cells of distal terminal bronchioles. It is considered the most sensitive and specific marker to define the adenocarcinoma arising from the terminal respiratory unit (TRU). TTF-1, CK7, CK5/6,
