Hypophysectomy leads to a small increase in tyrosine hydroxylase activity of all brain areas containing noradrenergic neurons or tuberoinfundibular dopamine neurons, but nigroneostriatal dopamine neurons are not so affected. ACTH or corticosterone treatment inhibited this effect of hypophysectomy in some noradrenergic neurons and in tuberoinfundibular ...

Phosphorylation of eukaryotic initiation factor 4E-binding protein 1 (4E-BP1) and 70-kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase (S6K1) in the rat liver increased in proportion to the amount of leucine administered, ranging from 0.169 to 1.35 g/kg of body weight.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of i.v. morphine on sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) in the rat. Adrenal SNA and renal SNA were recorded simultaneously, together with mean arterial pressure and heart rate, in chloralose-anesthetized, artificially ventilated rats. Separate groups of rats were subjected to vagotomy.

The effect of gold thioglucose (GTG) administration on neurons containing feeding-related peptides in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus was examined in mice. Intraperitoneal GTG injection increased the body weight and produced a hypothalamic lesion that extended from the ventral part of the ventromedial nucleus to the dorsal part of the arcuate nucleus.

Chronic administration of desipramine resulted in a significant decrease in the degree of stimulation of production of cyclic AMP by noradrenaline, isoproterenol and forskolin in slices of the cerebral cortex of the rat. In preparations of membranes from similarly treated animals, GppNHp- and forskolin-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity was ...

Sheep red blood cells (SRBC) were orally administered to young (4 months old) and old (22 months old) mice, and its effect on the antibody production after systemic immunization was compared between young and old mice. The results showed that the dose-dependent suppression of antibody response (oral tolerance) was observed in young mice which had been ...
