Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Accurate and fast event-based shape measurement of mixed reflectance scenes

open access: yesNature Communications
Event-based structured light systems have recently emerged as an exciting alternative to frame-based triangulation for 3D measurement of diffuse surfaces, offering high dynamic range and fast capture speed, but at the cost of reduced data quality ...

The Diffusion of Innovations: Some Reflections [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of the Economics of Business, 2018
This paper discusses a number of interrelated topics relating to the economics of innovation diffusion that merit further research and study. These topics encompass: how innovations are not just technological, may be horizontal or vertical, and may develop over time; the role in the diffusion process of complementarities across and substitutability ...

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Materiais SiO2-TiO2 para a degradação fotocatalítica de diuron

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2011
SiO2-TiO2 materials prepared by sol-gel method were evaluated in the photocatalytic degradation of diuron. The materials were prepared with and without surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium chloride at different temperatures (25, 50 and 100 ºC).

Rapid determination of oxygen saturation and vascularity for cancer detection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
A rapid heuristic ratiometric analysis for estimating tissue hemoglobin concentration and oxygen saturation from measured tissue diffuse reflectance spectra is presented.

Reflected Diffusion Processes with Jumps

open access: yesThe Annals of Probability, 1985
In this paper, the authors study the question of building solutions of stochastic differential equations with reflecting boundary conditions, corresponding to reflected diffusion processes with jumps. To do so, they adapt to the case of jump processes the penalty argument used by many authors.

Reflective Inverse Diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2016
Phase front modulation was previously used to refocus light after transmission through scattering media. This process has been adapted here to work in reflection. A liquid crystal spatial light modulator is used to conjugate the phase scattering properties of diffuse reflectors to produce a converging phase front just after reflection.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Discovery of the Linear Region of Near Infrared Diffuse Reflectance Spectra Using the Kubelka-Munk Theory

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2018
Particle size is of great importance for the quantitative model of the NIR diffuse reflectance. In this paper, the effect of sample particle size on the measurement of harpagoside in Radix Scrophulariae powder by near infrared diffuse (NIR) reflectance ...
