Role of MRI in differentiating benign from malignant breast lesions using dynamic contrast enhanced MRI and diffusion weighted MRI

open access: yesAlexandria Journal of Medicine, 2018
Objective: To evaluate the role of MRI in differentiation of benign from malignant breast lesions using dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) and diffusion weighted MRI (DW-MRI).

Axon radius measurements in vivo from diffusion MRI: A feasibility study

open access: yes, 2007
This paper investigates the feasibility of using diffusion MRI to measure axon-cell dimensions in the white matter of live subjects. A simple geometric model of white-matter tissue provides an expression that relates the axon radius to the diffusion MRI ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

POSSIBILITIES OF DIFFUSION-WEIGHTED MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF SPINAL CORD TUMORS

open access: yesВестник рентгенологии и радиологии, 2018
The review analyzes the data of modern literature on main methods for the diagnosis of spinal cord tumors. It reflects the possibilities of using diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI), by constructing the maps of measured diffusion coefficients (ICD) and ...

Post-treatment benign changes versus recurrence in non-lymphoid head and neck malignancies: can diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging end up the diagnostic challenge?

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2020
Background The aim of this prospective cohort study is to substantiate the added value of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) over conventional MRI assessment in the differentiation between locoregional recurrence/residual tumour and ...

Small-bowel MRI in children and young adults with Crohn disease: retrospective head-to-head comparison of contrast-enhanced and diffusion-weighted MRI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Small-bowel MRI based on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted sequences has been challenged by diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for detection of inflammatory bowel lesions and complications in patients with Crohn ...

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Diffusion-weighted imaging in the evaluation of perianal fistula and abscess

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2020
Background Perianal fistulas are a common inflammatory condition of the anal canal and perianal tissue. The introduction of MRI in the evaluation of suspected perianal inflammation has greatly improved the surgical outcome of these patients as it allowed
