Power Euclidean metrics for covariance matrices with application to diffusion tensor imaging [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Various metrics for comparing diffusion tensors have been recently proposed in the literature. We consider a broad family of metrics which is indexed by a single power parameter. A likelihood-based procedure is developed for choosing the most appropriate metric from the family for a given dataset at hand.

Discovering Hidden Physics Behind Transport Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Transport processes are ubiquitous. They are, for example, at the heart of optical flow approaches; or of perfusion imaging, where blood transport is assessed, most commonly by injecting a tracer. An advection-diffusion equation is widely used to describe these transport phenomena.

MAGNETIC RESONANCE WATER SELF-DIFFUSION TENSOR ENCODING OPTIMIZATION METHODS FOR FULL BRAIN ACQUISITION

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2011
Water diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) is a non-invasive and sensitive modality that is becoming increasingly popular in diagnostic radiology. DT-MRI provides in vivo directional information about the organization and microdynamics of

Detecting white matter alterations in multiple sclerosis using advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2019
Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative and inflammatory disease, a hallmark of which is demyelinating lesions in the white matter. We hypothesized that alterations in white matter microstructures can be non-invasively characterized by advanced ...

Characterization of imaging gradients in diffusion tensor imaging [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance, 2010
For obtaining a complete model the diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) method is derived in a new linear algebraic framework in order to include the effect of all of the magnetic field gradients on the MRI signal. In the framework, the coefficient matrix of the estimation equations consists of the sum of three matrices corresponding to diffusion gradients ...

Anisotropic Diffusion in ITK [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Anisotropic Non-Linear Diffusion is a powerful image processing technique, which allows to simultaneously remove the noise and enhance sharp features in two or three dimensional images. Anisotropic Diffusion is understood here in the sense of Weickert, meaning that diffusion tensors are anisotropic and reflect the local orientation of image features ...
