Electrolysis-enhanced anaerobic digestion of wastewater

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2011
This study demonstrates enhanced methane production from wastewater in laboratory-scale anaerobic reactors equipped with electrodes for water electrolysis. The electrodes were installed in the reactor sludge bed and a voltage of 2.8-3.5 V was applied resulting in a continuous supply of oxygen and hydrogen.

Co-digestion strategies to enhance microalgae anaerobic digestion: A review

open access: yesRenewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2019
Microalgae biorefineries for the production of biofuels and high-value products have captured the attention of academia and industry. Implementing an anaerobic digestion step can enhance resource recovery from microalgae and microalgae residues. Anaerobic co-digestion, the simultaneous digestion of two or more substrates, is an opportunity to overcome ...

Digestibility of gluten proteins is reduced by baking and enhanced by starch digestion [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2015
ScopeResistance of proteins to gastrointestinal digestion may play a role in determining immune‐mediated adverse reactions to foods. However, digestion studies have largely been restricted to purified proteins and the impact of food processing and food matrices on protein digestibility is poorly understood. Methods and resultsDigestibility of a total ...

Enhancing nutrient recovery from food waste anaerobic digestate

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2023
The study synthesised the raw liquid fraction of digestate into a nutrient rich solid digestate through acidification whilst preventing nitrogen loss through ammonium volatilisation during evaporation. To stabilise ammonium in the digestate, it was acidified with sulphuric, nitric, and phosphoric acid to produce solid digestate with ammonium sulphate ...

Colloidal stability of tannins: astringency, wine tasting and beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Tannin-tannin and tannin-protein interactions in water-ethanol solvent mixtures are studied in the context of red wine tasting. While tannin self-aggregation is relevant for visual aspect of wine tasting (limpidity and related colloidal phenomena ...

Biomethane production improvement by enzymatic pretreatments and enhancers of sewage sludge anaerobic digestion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Enzymatic hydrolysis is recognised as an effective pre-treatment for increasing biodegradability of sludge. In this work, isolated commercial enzymes as well as in-situ enzymes producer bacteria were used respectively as enhancers and pre-treatments of ...
