Assessment of the application for renewal of the authorisation of PHYZYME® XP 10000 TPT/L (6‐phytase) as a feed additive for all avian species and all swine species

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2019
PHYZYME® XP 10000 TPT/L is a feed additive that contains 6‐phytase produced by a genetically modified strain of Schizosaccharomyces pombe. The applicant requested for the renewal of the authorisation for PHYZYME® XP 10000 TPT and L to be used as a feed ...

Safety and efficacy of Avizyme® 1505 (endo‐1,4‐beta‐xylanase, subtilisin and alpha‐amylase) for all poultry species

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2020
Avizyme® 1505 is based on three enzyme activities produced by three genetically modified microorganisms: xylanase, subtilisin and amylase produced by Trichoderma reesei, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, respectively. It is authorised for

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Ultrasonic sludge treatment for enhanced anaerobic digestion

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2004
Ultrasound is the term used to describe sound energy at frequencies above 20 kHz. Highpowered ultrasound can be applied to a waste stream via purpose-designed tools in order to induce cavitation. This effect results in the rupture of cellular material and reduction of particle size in the waste stream, making the cells more amenable to downstream ...

Free Ammonia Pretreatment to Enhance Biodegradation of Anaerobically Digested Sludge in Post Aerobic Digestion [PDF]

open access: yesACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, 2018
In wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), sludge reduction was implemented via sequential anaerobic-aerobic digestion. However, the performance of post aerobic digestion for anaerobically digested sludge (ADS) is limited. Free ammonia (FA)-based pretreatment technology is proposed in this study as an innovative method to enhance the degradation ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.
