Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Digestive Enzyme Supplementation in Gastrointestinal Diseases

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Digestive enzymes are able to break down proteins and carbohydrates and lipids, and their supplementation may play a role in the management of digestive disorders, from lactose intolerance to cystic fibrosis.

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Use of Digestive Enzyme Preparations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The digestive enzyme preparations are one of the most widely used drugs in Korea. However, it is rather misused or abused. Pancreatic enzyme supplement is only indicated for pancreatic insufficiency, such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

Midgut proteases from larval spodoptera littoralis (lepidoptera: noctutoae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The presence and properties of proteases present in larval midgut extracts from Spodoptera littoralis was investigated. Trypsin and chymotrypsin activities were found mainly in the midgut lumen while leucine aminopeptidase and dipeptidyl aminopeptidase ...

Yeast Gcn2 retains activity following humanization of its auto‐phosphorylation region

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to study Gcn2 activation and regulation is limited by the lack of antibodies detecting phosphorylated Gcn2. To overcome this, we engineered Gcn2‐HsC, a yeast Gcn2 variant recognizable by commercial anti‐human phospho‐GCN2 antibodies.

Distinct Fecal Proteolytic Activity in Zoo Animals with Different Feeding Strategies

open access: yesAnimals
Impaired intestinal proteolytic activity can lead to increased intestinal permeability. Differences in dietary protein intake may influence proteolytic activity in the digestive system.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral
