How do we teach Filmmaking – given the rapid changes in digital technology? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
“Gutenberg's concept of movable type transcended the medium used for the printing itself. Digital, perhaps, may prove to be paper to celluloid’s parchment.” [Murch, 1999] With the recent cessation of production of 35mm cinema cameras [Kaufman, 2011] and ...

Computing Logarithms Digit-by-Digit

open access: yesBRICS Report Series, 2004
In this work, we present an algorithm for computing logarithms of positive real numbers, that bares structural resemblance to the elementary school algorithm of long division. Using this algorithm, we can compute successive digits of a logarithm using a 4-operation pocket calculator.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Analyzing LLM-Generated Code According to Four ISO/IEC 5055:2021 Categories

open access: yesIEEE Access
The use of large language models (LLMs) for generating code in software development is on the rise. While LLMs demonstrate impressive capabilities, there remains a need to evaluate the quality of generated code beyond functional correctness.

Digital humanities, digital methods, digital history, and digital outputs: History writing and the digital revolution [PDF]

open access: yesHistory Compass, 2018
Abstract While the term “digital humanities” appears inclusive, its exact meaning remains unclear and its early association with studies in English Literature means the term has already been partially superceded by “digital methods.” However, that renaming is problematic as it emphasises the research tools used while the field itself ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
