Photodynamic Therapy Using Topically Applied Dihematoporphyrin Ether in the Treatment of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia [PDF]

open access: yesGynecologic Oncology, 1997
To perform a phase I study of topically applied dihematoporphyrin ether (DHE) in the photodynamic treatment (PDT) of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) using fixed DHE doses and application schedules, and a variable dose of 630 nm red light delivered by an argon-pumped dye laser.Between February 1993 and April 1994, 24 nonpregnant women with a ...

The synthesis of dihematoporphyrin ether and related porphyrin dimers

open access: yesTetrahedron Letters, 1988
Abstract Dihematoporphyrin ether (DHE) has been synthesised by two separate procedures; these routes also allow the synthesis of ether linked porphyrin dimers containing one or two vinyl groups rather than hydroxyethyl side chains. The latter dimers, but not DHE, have anti-cancer activity.

Complications of Whole Bladder Dihematoporphyrin Ether Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesJournal of Urology, 1989
Photodynamic therapy with dihematoporphyrin ether was used to treat superficial bladder tumors in 7 patients with a followup of at least 1 year. Each patient received treatment to the whole bladder and those with papillary lesions received additional focal treatment.

Transcutaneous Determination of Tissue Dihematoporphyrin Ether Content

open access: yesArchives of Dermatology, 1991
• Photodynamic therapy involves the use of light of appropriate wavelength to excite a photosensitizer resulting in tissue destruction. The photosensitizer dihematoporphyrin ether is selectively retained in tumors allowing for tumor destruction while sparing normal structures. Accessibility of skin tumors makes them well suited for photodynamic therapy.

On the Preparation of Dihematoporphyrin Ether-Free Hematoporphyrin Derivative

open access: yesBiological Chemistry Hoppe-Seyler, 1988
A dihematoporphyrin ether-free hematoporphyrin derivative has been prepared by a base-catalysed dehydration of hematoporphyrin with sodium hydroxide. The identification was performed by HPLC and mass spectroscopy (FD-MS). The reaction of hematoporphyrin with 1 M sodium hydroxide for 24 h yields more than 90% of the monomeric porphyrins.

In Vitro Photosensitization of Human Head and Neck Squamous Cancer Cells by Dihematoporphyrin‐Ether

open access: yesOtolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1988
In vitro experiments were performed to evaluate the direct cytotoxic and photosensitizing effects of dihematoporphyrin‐ether (DHE) on the head and neck squamous cancer cell line, UM‐SCC‐38. Normal fibroblasts, normal cultured keratinocytes, and the UM‐MEL‐1 pigmented malignant melanoma cell line were used as controls.

Biodistribution of Indium 111-Labeled Dihematoporphyrin Ether in Papillomas and Body Tissues: Relevance to Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesJAMA Otolaryngology, 1989
Hematoporphyrin derivative and its newly purified form, dihematoporphyrin ether, have been shown to localize selectively in malignant tissues and virally induced papillomas. Its use as a probe to distinguish tumors from normal tissues has been largely based on its fluorescence when activated by UV light.

Pharmacokinetic Studies of Hematoporphyrin Derivatives on Rat Hepatocytes. Protoporphyrin Dimethyl Ester Hematoporphyrin Ether versus Dihematoporphyrin Ether-Free Hematoporphyrin Derivative

open access: yesBiological Chemistry Hoppe-Seyler, 1991
Rat liver cells incorporate monomeric as well as dimeric hematoporphyrin derivatives. Time-dependent incubation assays gave evidence that monomeric compounds are more efficiently incorporated compared to protoporphyrin dimethyl ester hematoporphyrin ether.

Severe but temporary injury to rabbit orbicularis oculi muscle using dihematoporphyrin ether and laser photochemomyectomy

open access: yesMovement Disorders, 1992
AbstractThe use of local dihematoporphyrin ether (DHE) injections, followed by laser light activation, was investigated as a potential permanent myectomy treatment for muscle spasms, in particular blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm. DHE was injected into the eyelids of rabbits, followed by laser activation, as used in photochemotherapy. Four days after

Response of Black and White Guinea Pig Skin to Photodynamic Treatment Using 514-nm Light and Dihematoporphyrin Ether

open access: yesArchives of Dermatology, 1990
Differences in skin pigmentation may significantly affect light penetration during photodynamic therapy. This study evaluated the effect of skin pigmentation on dermatotoxic reaction to photodynamic therapy utilizing the photosensitizer dihematoporphyrin ether.
