PCR-DGGE analysis: Unravelling complex mixtures of badnavirus sequences present in yam germplasm [PDF]
Badnaviruses (family Caulimoviridae, genus Badnavirus) have emerged as serious pathogens especially affecting the cultivation of tropical crops. Badnavirus sequences can be integrated in host genomes, complicating the detection of episomal infections and

Yam (Dioscorea spp.) production trends in Cameroon: A review [PDF]
Yam (Dioscorea spp.) cultivation has the potentials to greatly contribute to poverty alleviation and food security, in Cameroon. The full production potentials of yams have not been exploited, leaving Cameroon with an annual production of 648,407 metric tons (MT) at the sixth position, among the six countries of the West African yam zone, with 67.3 ...

This scoping review (2020–2025) compiles validated evidence on the antioxidant potential of unconventional edible plants (PANCs). Thirty species showed high phenolic content and strong radical‐scavenging activity, reinforcing their role as natural antioxidants and sustainable alternatives to synthetic additives within biodiversity‐based food systems ...

Molecular characterization of Secoviridae and Potexvirus infecting yams (Dioscorea spp) [PDF]
The prevalence of virus species is generally high among vegetatively?propagated crops, because they cannot be sanitized via seed production and therefore accumulate viruses over long periods of time.

Characterization of the Omnivorous Lygus lineolaris Diet in a Strawberry Field by Metataxonomy
This study employs metataxonomy to reveal the extensive omnivorous diet of Lygus lineolaris in a strawberry field, identifying 475 host taxa and confirming active ingestion across plant and prey sources. We introduce a novel coefficient of omnivory, demonstrating the species' strong herbivorous bias while highlighting its dietary flexibility and ...

Tannia Starch: Structural and Functional Characterization
Physicochemical characterization of crude and purified tannia starch revealed increased amylose content, higher pasting viscosity, and preserved A‐type crystallinity in the purified form. The findings highlight tannia starch as a promising functional ingredient for thermally processed foods and biodegradable material applications.

Background The global dominance of a few major cereal crops has led to the marginalization of traditional species, reducing agrobiodiversity and increasing the vulnerability of food systems. Changing climate conditions, particularly intensifying drought stress, further threaten global food security.
