Reported is the case of a 23-year-old man who ingested 300 mL of Reglone. He developed vomiting five to 10 minutes after ingestion. Shortly thereafter, he developed renal and central nervous system manifestations of toxicity, followed by cardiovascular collapse and death 14 hours after admission.

Magnitude and characteristics of acute paraquat- and diquat-related illnesses in the US: 1998–2013
Background: Paraquat and diquat are among the most commonly used herbicides in the world. Objectives: Determine the magnitude, characteristics, and root causes for acute paraquat- and diquatrelated illnesses in the US Methods: Illnesses associated with ...

Ellagic acid (EA) is the main constituent found in pomegranate rind, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. However, whether EA can alleviate diquat-induced oxidative stress is still unknown.

Experimental Eye Research, 1970
We have confirmed that lens opacities develop in rats that are fed a diet containing 0·05–0·075% of diquat (1,1′-ethylene-2,2′-dipyridylium dibromide). The pathological changes in the lens are described. Radioactivity appears in the lens and other ocular tissues after intraperitoneal injection of [14C]diquat.

Mutagenic and embryotoxic effects of paraquat and diquat [PDF]
In our previous report on the in vivo cytogenic effect of paraquat, it was concluded that the compound had no mutagenic effect on the bone marrow cells of the mouse (SELYPES et al. 1978). In the first part of this study we investigated whether dlquat would have a mutagenic effect under similar experimental circumstances, and in the second part, we ...

Resolution of the First Nonracemic Diquats
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2010AbstractThree tricyclic diquats with an eight‐membered ring were prepared and shown to be the first configurationally stable derivatives of their kind. Resolution was achieved by using chiral hexacoordinated phosphorus BINPHAT and TRISPHAT anions. The diquat cations were obtained in high diastereo‐ and enantiomeric purity (ee>96 % in most cases).

Isolation of Diquat with SepPak C18
Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1989The herbicide paraquat (1,1 '-dimethyl-4,4 '-bipyridylium dichloride) has been isolated from plasma and serum without deproteinization by SepPak C,~ (1). Last year, its concentration in a commercial preparation in Japan was reduced to one fifth, from 24~ to 5~ (as its ion), due to its high mortality rate. To compensate, another herbicide, diquat (1,1 '-

Pseudocryptand Hosts for Paraquats and Diquats
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018H-bonding interaction of acidic moieties (CH2OH, COOH) at the 5- and 5'-positions of bis(1,3-phenylene)-32-crown-10 (1) with di- or tritopic anions leads to enhanced formation of inclusion complexes with N,N'-dialkyl-4,4'-bipyridinium salts ("paraquats", 2); the enforced folding of the crown ethers into pseudocryptands thus leads to pseudo ...

Worker exposure to paraquat and diquat
Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1983Exposure of workers applying paraquat to fields of tomatoes and citrus, and diquat to waterways containing water hyacinths and hydrilla, was monitored with dermal α-cellulose pads attached at each of ten body locations and with personal air monitors.
