A critical literature review of the effectiveness of various instruments in the diagnosis of dementia in adults with intellectual disabilities

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring, 2016
Introduction Currently, there is no consensus on dementia diagnostics in adults with intellectual disabilities (ID). There are three types of assessments available: direct cognitive tests, test batteries, and informant reports.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Advancements in Digital Workflows for 3D-Printed Maxillofacial Soft Prostheses: Exploring Design and Materials in Direct Additive Manufacturing: A Scoping Review

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The treatment of maxillofacial defects presents significant challenges due to the complexity of facial anatomy and the diversity of affected tissues. Traditional workflows are labor-intensive, costly, and limited in customization.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Over‐the‐Horizon Direct Positioning With Ionospheric Heights Priors

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation
This study addresses positioning errors in high‐frequency (HF) over‐the‐horizon (OTH) localisation that arise from inaccuracies in ionospheric virtual height measurements.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Identifying sets of acceptable solutions to non-linear, geophysical inverse problems which have complicated misfit functions [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 1995
A goal of geophysical inversion is to identify all models which give an acceptable misfit between predicted and observed data. However, because of the complexity of Earth structure, the non-linearity of physical processes in the Earth, and the ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

An Efficient Method for Amplitude–Phase Error Calibration in Direct Localization for Distributed Multi-Station Systems

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Direct localization methods offer significant advantages in modern high-frequency (HF) radar systems for maritime target localization. However, the presence of amplitude–phase errors poses severe challenges to their accuracy and reliability.
