Recent advances in aryl–aryl bond formation by direct arylation

Chemical Society Reviews, 2009
The abundance of the biaryl structural motif in natural products, in biologically active molecules and in materials chemistry has positioned aryl-aryl (Ar-Ar) bond formation high on the agenda of synthetic chemists. For decades well-known reactions such as the Mizoroki-Heck and Suzuki-Miyaura have been the methods of choice to furnish biaryls.

Direct Arylation of Unactivated Alkanes with Heteroarenes by Visible Light Catalysis.

Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
The functionalization of aliphatic C-H bonds is both a major challenge and a desirable goal in organic synthesis. Here, we describe the successful arylation of unactivated alkanes with heteroarenes by using iridium polypyridyl complexes as photocatalyst ...

Allocolchicinoid Synthesis via Direct Arylation

Organic Letters, 2005
[reaction: see text] A formal enantioselective synthesis of allocolchicine and a synthesis of a C-ring analogue have been achieved by employing an intramolecular direct arylation of an aryl chloride to form the biaryl carbon-carbon bond and the seven-membered ring.

Direct Arylation of Thiazoles on Water

Angewandte Chemie, 2007
Wetter is better: The direct arylation of thiazoles on water is quicker, cleaner, and higher-yielding than arylation in organic solvents. The reaction works under mild conditions for an array of aryl iodides, producing 2,5-diaryl thiazoles in excellent yields.

Iron-Catalyzed Regioselective Direct Oxidative Aryl–Aryl Cross-Coupling

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2011
Regioselective iron-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of two aromatic compounds using tert-BuOOH as oxidant under mild conditions has been reported. The direct oxidative coupling reaction is selective toward creation of a carbon-carbon bond at the position ortho to the functional groups of the substrates, completely preventing the ...

High-Yielding Intramolecular Direct Arylation Reactions with Aryl Chlorides

Organic Letters, 2005
[reaction: see text] An N-heterocyclic carbene palladium catalyst system is used to promote direct arylation of a broad range of aryl chlorides to form six- and five-membered ring biaryls. An influence of the halide on the palladium precatalyst on catalyst activation has been revealed, as has a beneficial effect of NHC salts that allows the turnover ...

Nickel-Catalyzed Direct Arylation of Azoles with Aryl Bromides

Organic Letters, 2009
Nickel catalyst systems for the direct C2 arylation of oxazoles and thiazoles have been developed. The catalyst systems are cost-efficient and allow the use of various aryl bromides in the C-H arylation of azoles.
