Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Features of membrane protein sequence direct post-translational insertion

open access: yesNature Communications
The proper folding of multispanning membrane proteins (MPs) hinges on the accurate insertion of their transmembrane helices (TMs) into the membrane. Predominantly, TMs are inserted during protein translation, via a conserved mechanism centered around the

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Windowed overlapped frequency domain block filtering approach for direct sequence signal acquisition

open access: yesDigital Communications and Networks, 2018
This study applies a windowed frequency domain overlapped block filtering approach to acquire direct sequence signals. As a novel viewpoint, the windows not only allow pulse shaping without front-end pulse-shaping filter, but also increase the ...

Search for Direct CP Violation in Non-Leptonic Decays of Charged $\Xi$ and $\Lambda$ Hyperons

open access: yes, 2000
A search for direct CP violation in the non-leptonic decays of hyperons has been performed. In comparing the product of the decay parameters, $\alpha_{\Xi}\alpha_{\Lambda}$, in terms of an asymmetry parameter, $A_{\Xi\Lambda}$, between hyperons and anti ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Ant-colony-based multiuser detection for multifunctional-antenna-array-assisted MC DS-CDMA systems

open access: yes, 2008
A novel Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based Multi-User Detector (MUD) is designed for the synchronous Multi-Functional Antenna Array (MFAA) assisted Multi-Carrier Direct-Sequence Code-Division Multiple-Access (MC DS-CDMA) uplink (UL), which supports both

Directed degree sequences

open access: yes, 2011

Energy directed folding of RNA sequences

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1984
A modification of Nussinov's algorithm (1) for (planar) secondary structure generation is described. Our algorithm postpones decisions on matches involving destabiling loops until they prove to be energetically more favourable than more local matches. We present, moreover, an alternative way of representing secondary structures which avoids unwarranted

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in
