A Model for Hospital Discharge Preparation: From Case Management to Care Transition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
There has been a proliferation of initiatives to improve discharge processes and outcomes for the transition from hospital to home and community-based care.

Effects of horizontal vibration on hopper flows of granular materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The current experiments investigate the discharge of glass spheres in a planar wedge-shaped hopper (45 degree sidewalls) that is vibrated hoizontally.

Patient Outcomes After Hospital Discharge to Home With Home Health Care vs to a Skilled Nursing Facility.

open access: yesJAMA Internal Medicine, 2019
Importance Use of postacute care is common and costly in the United States, but there is significant uncertainty about whether the choice of postacute care setting matters.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Imputing Rainfall Data for Flood Simulation in Citarum River, West Java

open access: yesSriwijaya Journal of Environment, 2023
The central role of the Citarum River as a buffer to meet the needs of agricultural irrigation, industrial activities, and raw water in the six surrounding districts, including 80% of the population of Jakarta, has experienced a decline in conditions ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Glacierized headwater streams as aquifer recharge corridors, subarctic Alaska

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2017
Arctic river discharge has increased in recent decades although sources and mechanisms remain debated. Abundant literature documents permafrost thaw and mountain glacier shrinkage over the past decades. Here we link glacier runoff to aquifer recharge via

In‐Hospital and Postdischarge Mortality Among Patients With Acute Decompensated Heart Failure Hospitalizations Ending on the Weekend Versus Weekday: The ARIC Study Community Surveillance

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background Hospital staffing is usually reduced on weekends, potentially impacting inpatient care and postdischarge coordination of care for patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

MHD-RLC discharge model and the efficiency characteristics of plasma synthetic jet actuator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Major factors affecting efficiency of plasma synthetic jet actuator (PSJA) are analyzed based on a new discharge model in the present paper. The model couples the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with the resistor–inductor–capacitor (RLC) equations ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
