The Comparative Field Evaluation of Four Different Traps for Mosquito Surveillance in the Republic of Korea

open access: yesInsects
Monitoring mosquito populations is essential for controlling mosquito-borne diseases, and the selection of mosquito traps should be tailored to specific surveillance objectives.

Adenovirus vectors

open access: yes
Infectious diseases are the prime cause of morbidity and mortality in animals leading to heavy economic losses to the livestock/poultry industry. One of the most effective ways to control these losses is by use of recombinant vaccines.

Identification of potential vectors and alternative plant hosts for the phytoplasma associated with Napier grass stunt disease in Ethiopia

open access: yes, 2009
Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), the most important forage crop in East Africa, has recently been affected by a devastating disease named Napier Grass Stunt (NGS). A phytoplasma of group 16SrI has been associated with NGS in Kenya and Uganda, whereas

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Leishmania chitinase facilitates colonization of sand fly vectors and enhances transmission to mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Chitinases of trypanosomatid parasites have been proposed to fulfil various roles in their blood-feeding arthropod vectors but so far none have been directly tested using a molecular approach.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Current Status of Trypanosoma grosi and Babesia microti in Small Mammals in the Republic of Korea

open access: yesAnimals
Small mammals, such as rodents and shrews, are natural reservoir hosts of zoonotic diseases, including parasitic protozoa. To assess the risk of rodent-borne parasitic protozoa in the Republic of Korea (ROK), this study investigated the status of ...

Development and application of non-integrating lentiviral vectors for gene therapy

open access: yes, 2009
Lentiviruses stably integrate their genome into the host genome. Although this feature can be advantageous for long term transgene expression, it also has the potential to cause mutagenesis and cell transformation.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

IMPACT OF HOUSE DESIGN ON THE ENTRY AND EXIT OF INSECT DISEASE VECTORS IN THE GAMBIA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The impact of house design on the entry and exit of insect vectors of disease in The Gambia House design may affect the exposure of the residents to vector-borne diseases in rural areas in Africa.
