Analytical Description of Brittle-to-Ductile Transition in bcc Metals. Nucleation of dislocation loop at the crack tip

open access: yes, 2002
Nucleation of dislocation loop at the crack tip in a material subjected to uniaxial loading is investigated. Analytical expression for the total energy of rectangular dislocation loop at the crack tip is found. Depencence of the nucleation energy barrier

Dislocation loop evolution during in-situ ion irradiation of model FeCrAl alloys

open access: yes, 2017
Model FeCrAl alloys of Fe-10%Cr-5%Al, Fe-12%Cr-4.5%Al, Fe-15%Cr-4%Al, and Fe-18%Cr-3%Al (in wt %) were irradiated with 1 MeV Kr++ ions in-situ with transmission electron microscopy to a dose of 2.5 displacements per atom (dpa) at 320 °C.

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Emission of a Half-Rectangular Dislocation Loop from the Surface of a Compositionally Graded Epilayer

open access: yes, 1994
When a half-rectangular perfect or partial dislocation loop is emitted from the surface of a strained epilayer, the optimum dislocation shape occurs at a saddle point of the total energy profile as a function of the dislocation width and length.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Basal Dislocation/Precipitate Interactions in Mg-Al Alloys: an Atomistic Investigation

open access: yes, 2019
The interaction between edge basal dislocations and β-Mg17Al12 precipitates was studied using atomistic simulations. A strategy was developed to insert a lozenge-shaped Mg17Al12 precipitate with Burgers orientation relationship within the Mg matrix in

The Ni,Cd Heteroatoms‐Initiated Synergistic Tuning of Electron Configuration in Fe2VO4 Nanosheets Electrocatalysts to Profoundly Stabilize Alkaline Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni,Cd‐codoped Fe2VO4/NF bifunctional electrocatalyst is rationally designed for efficient seawater electrolysis. Synergistic effect modulates electron configuration, optimizes intermediates adsorption, stabilizes high‐valence Fe/V sites, and repels chloride ions to suppress corrosion and side reactions, thus contributing to performance improvement of

Dislocation loop line density analysis--fundamental differences between TEM and XRD

open access: yes, 2022
Dislocation loops in neutron or proton irradiation Zr alloys are usually characterized by TEM. Although X-ray line broadening has proven to be a powerful tool for determining dislocation densities (DD) in deformed materials, in irradiated materials X ...

Glissile Interphase Boundaries Enable Collective Phase Switching in Epitaxial Polar Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triple point is identified in the phase diagram of low‐symmetry epitaxial BiFeO3 thin film along with an extended regime of phase competition associated with a flattened energy landscape. The electromechanical response is shown to be governed by correlated interphase‐boundary motion, including scale‐free avalanche dynamics characteristic of systems ...
