Microstructural Characterization of Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels
Ion irradiation is a promising tool to emulate neutron-irradiation effects on reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels, especially in the situation of limited availability of suitable neutron-irradiated material.

Horizontal instability after acromioclavicular joint reduction using the two-hole technique is preferred over the loop technique: a single-blind randomized clinical trial [PDF]
Background Most acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injuries are caused by direct trauma to the shoulders, and various methods and techniques are used to treat them; however, none of the options can be considered the gold standard.

Annealing of dislocation loops in dislocation dynamics simulations
We report of 3-dimensional discrete dislocation dynamics (DDD) simulations of dislocation loops coarsening by vacancy bulk difiusion. The calculation is based upon a model which couples the difiusion theory of vacancies to the DDD in order to obtain the climb rate of the dislocation segments.

Nano-sized prismatic vacancy dislocation loops and vacancy clusters in tungsten
The vacancies produced in high energy collision cascades of irradiated tungsten can form vacancy clusters or prismatic vacancy dislocation loops. Moreover, vacancy loops can easily transform into planar vacancy clusters.

"Conjugate channeling" effect in dislocation core diffusion: carbon transport in dislocated BCC iron. [PDF]
Dislocation pipe diffusion seems to be a well-established phenomenon. Here we demonstrate an unexpected effect, that the migration of interstitials such as carbon in iron may be accelerated not in the dislocation line direction ξ, but in a conjugate ...

Unraveling deformation mechanisms around FCC and BCC nanocontacts through slip trace and pileup topography analyses [PDF]
Nanocontact loadings offer the potential to investigate crystal plasticity from surface slip trace emissions and distinct pileup patterns where individual atomic terraces arrange into hillocks and symmetric rosettes.

On gradient field theories: gradient magnetostatics and gradient elasticity
In this work the fundamentals of gradient field theories are presented and reviewed. In particular, the theories of gradient magnetostatics and gradient elasticity are investigated and compared.

The Topology of Dislocations in Smectic Liquid Crystals [PDF]
The order parameter of the smectic liquid crystal phase is the same as that of a superfluid or superconductor, namely a complex scalar field. We show that the essential difference in boundary conditions between these systems leads to a markedly different

Review and critical assessment of dislocation loop analyses on EUROFER 97
The understanding of microstructural defects behavior after neutron irradiation is crucial for assessing the applicability of reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM) steel EUROFER 97 in future fusion reactors.
