Discrete dislocation simulations and size dependent hardening in single slip [PDF]
Plastic deformation in two-dimensional monophase and composite materials is studied using a discrete dislocation dynamics method. In this method, dislocations are represented by line defects in a linear elastic medium, and their interactions with ...

The present article evaluates, in qualitative and quantitative manners, the characteristics (i.e., thickness of layers, crystal structures, growth orientation, elemental diffusion depths, edge, and screw dislocation densities), within two GaN/AlN/Si ...

Existence and stability of a screw dislocation under anti-plane deformation [PDF]
We formulate a variational model for a geometrically necessary screw dislocation in an anti-plane lattice model at zero temperature. Invariance of the energy functional under lattice symmetries renders the problem non-coercive.

DISLOCATION AND FRACTURE-DISLOCATION OF THE PELVIS [PDF]
1. Fifty dislocations and fracture-dislocations of the pelvis have been reviewed. 2. Complications were unusual. Two patients with rupture of the bladder died; two with rupture of the urethra survived. Of eight patients with retroperitoneal haemorrhage four died; the treatment advised is controlled blood transfusion maintaining a blood-pressure of ...

In some plants, developmental changes of phyllotaxis are so frequent that the whole spectrum of phyllotactic patterns becomes available for investigation and thus many unknown subtleties of phyllotaxis come to light.

Residual stress relief mechanisms of 2219 Al–Cu alloy by thermal stress relief method
Monolithic thin-wall components of 2219 Al–Cu alloy are widely used in aerospace and military fields, and usually treated with solution and quenching to improve their comprehensive performance. However, a high magnitude residual stress is introduced into

Dynamic Shear Deformation in Zinc Crystals [PDF]
The initial stages of yielding in single crystals of zinc have been investigated at temperatures of -292°F (-180°C), -93°F (-70°C) and +75°F (24°C), by means of rapidly applied constant stress pulses to produce slip along the basal planes of these ...

Faceting and Twin–Twin Interactions in {1121} and {1122} Twins in Titanium
Twin–twin interactions are an important component of the microstructural evolution of hexagonal close-packed metals undergoing plasticity. These interactions are prevalent because of the predominance of twinning due to limited easy slip modes.

Unveiling the Mechanisms of High-Temperature 1/2[111] Screw Dislocation Glide in Iron–Carbon Alloys
We have developed a self-consistent model for predicting the velocity of 1/2[111] screw dislocation in binary iron–carbon alloys gliding by a high-temperature Peierls mechanism.
