High‐Performance, Air‐Stable and Eco‐Friendly Terpene‐Processed Organic Solar Cells via Solvent‐Composition‐Controlled Film Formation Kinetics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solvent‐composition‐controlled film formation enables high‐performance (efficiency = 18.66%) and air‐stable terpene‐processed organic solar cells. An optimized eucalyptol/tetralin ratio of 50:50 (v/v) balances molecular solvation and aggregation kinetics, producing favorable nanoscale phase separation and vertical composition gradients.

Magneto‐Ionic Devices With Polymer‐Based Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer electrolytes are introduced for magneto‐ionic devices based on hydroxide and hydrogen ions. The magneto‐ionic effect results in a pronounced voltage‐controlled variation of coercivity in both devices. The switching speed is in the range of 100 ms.

Highly Efficient Corrosion Inhibition of Carbon Steel in Aggressive Acidic Media with a Pyridazinium-based Ionic Liquid

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2013
The inhibitive effect of 1-benzylpyridazin-1-ium bromide ionic liquid (MS20) on the corrosion of carbon steel in molar HCl has been investigated by means of weight loss measurements, kinetics and thermodynamics studies. A marked decrease of the corrosion

The Effect of Hydrophilic Headgroup Chemistry on Peptoid‐Directed Mineralization of CaCO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic peptoids alter the pathway and outcome of calcium carbonate crystallization, which progresses through amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) to vaterite to calcite rhombs in the absence of peptoids. In contrast, amine‐terminated peptoids produce vaterite disks and carboxyl‐terminated peptoids produce calcite mesocrystals.

Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysts with Trinuclear, Mixed‐Valence Iron Motifs on Electronically Aligned Carbon Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trinuclear iron oxo‐bridged catalytic ensembles stabilized by aspartic‐acid‐derived carbon dots provide an effective platform for alkaline oxygen evolution. Mixed‐valence charge balancing, inner‐sphere charge transport, and work‐function alignment within the N/O‐rich carbon framework promote cooperative Fe‐site chemistry and efficient OER ...

Second law of thermodynamics and the failure of rock materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The relation of nonequilibrium thermodynamics to some failure and fracture theories of rock mechanics is investigated. The basic concepts are given to connect failure to the properties of material equations describing the elastic properties.

Thermodynamics of Copper Dissolution into MnO–SiO2–MnS Inclusion System

open access: yesISIJ International, 2009
Recently, a new process has been introduced to control α-γ transformation of steels using cuprous sulfide precipitates on the MnO bearing oxide inclusion as well as MnS. In order to optimize the composition of inclusions, the solubility of copper into MnO-SiO 2 -MnS system were measured at 1 523 K and a dissolution mechanism of copper into an oxy ...

Emergence of a Hexagonal Fe2S2 Single Layer Without a Bulk Counterpart via Phase Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Upon annealing, single‐layer Mackinawite iron sulfide transforms into a previously unknown hexagonal Fe2S2${\rm Fe}_2{\rm S}_2$ phase with β$\beta$‐CuI structure. STM, LEED, and first‐principles calculations identify the structure and show that electronic correlations and magnetic order are important for its stability.
