The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Online professional development conferences: An effective, economical and eco-friendly option

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Learning and Technology, 2010
In order to stay current within their field, many professionals regularly attend conferences and training events in distant locales. Travel to these conferences costs professionals, and their sponsor organizations, both time and money.

Pseudo-distance-regularised graphs are distance-regular or distance-biregular [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
The concept of pseudo-distance-regularity around a vertex of a graph is a natural generalization, for non-regular graphs, of the standard distance-regularity around a vertex. In this note, we prove that a pseudo-distance-regular graph around each of its vertices is either distance-regular or distance-biregular.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.

Edge-distance-regular graphs are distance-regular [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
A graph is edge-distance-regular when it is distance-regular around each of its edges and it has the same intersection numbers for any edge taken as a root. In this paper we give some (combinatorial and algebraic) proofs of the fact that every edge-distance-regular graph $\G$ is distance-regular and homogeneous.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

GHG diffuse emissions estimation, and energy security to ENSO using MERRA-2 for largely hydroelectricity-based system

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2019
In Colombia, hydropower share was 70 % of the total installed capacity and more than 50 % of the monthly generation share in 2015, which coincided with the strongest El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon reported in the region.

Frequency-distance constraints with large distances

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 2000
AbstractGiven a set V of points in the plane, and a vector of distances d=(d0,d1,…,dk−1), an assignment f:V→{1,2,…,t} is called d-feasible if |f(u)−f(v)|>i whenever the distance between the points u and v is less than di. We think of the points in V as sites to which we are to assign radio channels, subject to ‘frequency-distance’ constraints which ...
