Ligand recognition by 14‐3‐3 proteins requires negative charges but not necessarily phosphorylation
FEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 6, Page 838-847, March 2025.Interactions of 14‐3‐3 proteins with their binding partners are attributed to phosphorylation of the binding partners. In this work, we show that at least one negative charge is required for the peptides to bind 14‐3‐3ε, although phosphorylation is not necessary, and that two negative charges are preferable for high affinity binding.
