Coping with burnout: analysis of linear, non-linear and interaction relationships

open access: yesAnales de Psicologia, 2017
This study analyzes the relationship between action-focused coping, emotion-focused coping and burnout dimensions (emotional exhaustion, cynicism and personal accomplishment) by comparing linear, non-linear and interaction models using quadratic ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Measuring emotions during learning: lack of coherence between automated facial emotion recognition and emotional experience

open access: yesOpen Computer Science, 2019
Measuring emotions non-intrusively via affective computing provides a promising source of information for adaptive learning and intelligent tutoring systems.

Matricial Wasserstein-1 Distance

open access: yes, 2017
In this note, we propose an extension of the Wasserstein 1-metric ($W_1$) for matrix probability densities, matrix-valued density measures, and an unbalanced interpretation of mass transport. The key is using duality theory, in particular, a "dual of the

DISTANCES TO DARK CLOUDS: COMPARING EXTINCTION DISTANCES TO MASER PARALLAX DISTANCES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2012
We test two different methods of using near-infrared extinction to estimate distances to dark clouds in the first quadrant of the Galaxy using large near infrared (2MASS and UKIDSS) surveys. VLBI parallax measurements of masers around massive young stars provide the most direct and bias-free measurement of the distance to these dark clouds.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Disability Friendly Sanitation Facilities in George Compound in Lusaka, Zambia: A Stakeholders Perspective

open access: yesJournal of Arts, Humanities and Social Science
Sanitation interventions in most peri-urban areas are being implemented without taking into consideration the special needs for the people living with vulnerabilities. In most cases, the sanitation technologies and designs are being developed without buy

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Testing the Distance-Duality Relation with a Combination of Cosmological Distance Observations

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, we propose an accurate test of the distance-duality (DD) relation, $\eta=D_{L}(z)(1+z)^{-2}/D_{A}(z)=1$ (where $D_{L}$ and $D_{A}$ are the luminosity distances and angular diameter distances, respectively), with a combination of ...
