Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Humor as a double-edged weapon in psychopathology: light and dark humor styles, coping, and personality in police mental health

open access: yesJournal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology
Background Police officers are at higher risk for mental health issues. Research that advances knowledge on job demands and resources remains crucial. Research on humor is sparse, despite it being commonplace in the workplace, and an accessible resource.

The difference between presence-based education and distance learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Attempts to define distance learning always involve comparisons with presence-based education, as the latter is the most direct reference that the former has.

Nanoindentation Criteria for Combinatorial Thin Film Libraries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thin‐film material libraries are compositional spreads used for screening composition‐structure‐property relationships. Nanoindentation is often used to characterize mechanical behavior across these systems, however variations in methodology are widespread.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Effect of magnetic field on thermal instability of a rotating Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2006
The thermal instability of a rotating Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid in the presence of uniform vertical magnetic field is considered. For the case of stationary convection, Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid behaves like a Newtonian fluid.
