Progressive emergence of canopy gravity waves during the afternoon–evening transition

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Large‐eddy simulations are used to investigate the afternoon‐to‐evening transition of turbulence over a forest canopy and its coupling with atmospheric boundary‐layer dynamics. As surface cooling strengthens stability and weakens near‐canopy winds, canopy turbulence transitions progressively to internal gravity waves that dominate the evening flow ...

Model‐resolution impacts on all‐sky infrared radiance simulation and cloud‐dependent observation errors over Indonesia

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Numerical weather prediction over Indonesia is particularly challenging, because convection evolves rapidly and is modulated strongly by land–sea interactions across the maritime continent. To constrain forecasts better, there is substantial potential in assimilating all‐sky infrared observations, provided that the associated observation‐error ...

Characteristics of quasi‐stationary band‐shaped precipitation systems in Japan between 1989 and 2022

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
(a) Annual occurrence frequency of QBPSs (green bars), five‐years moving average (blue line), and regression trend (red line) for 1989–2022. (b) Distribution of the geographical occurrence frequencies of QBPSs with a 5‐km resolution for 1989–2022. Quasi‐stationary band‐shaped precipitation systems (QBPSs) are a major cause of localized heavy rainfall ...

Relationships between dryline intensity, deep moist convection and regional circulation over interior southern Africa

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
We explore the relationship between dryline intensity, convective activity, and the regional circulation over southern Africa during summer by comparing weak and strong convective drylines with each other. We find that strong drylines result in stronger convection with up to 3.6 times more lightning strokes adjacent to the dryline than on weak dryline ...

Disrupted joint clock is associated with rhythmic expression of bone destruction factors in collagen‐induced arthritis

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Schematic Summary of Circadian Dysregulation in Arthritic Joints. This graphical abstract illustrates the key circadian disruptions observed in the collagen‑induced arthritis (CIA) model. The diagram depicts three main findings: (1) Nocturnal elevations in pro‑inflammatory cytokines (TNF‑α, IL‑6, IL‑17, IL‑1β, MIF) and bone‑destructive factors (DKK‑1 ...

Climate‐Driven Mangrove Dieback and Recovery: A Case Study in Albert and Leichhardt Rivers, Australia

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Cycles of dieback and recovery drove mangrove forest dynamics at the Albert and Leichhardt Rivers (Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland, Australia) over 36 years (1987–2023). Landward margins were the most affected by reduced tidal inundation when the alignment of low lunar declination suppressed tidal range and extreme El Niño phases lowered mean sea level.
