Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Genome skimming provides evidence to accept two new genera (Apiaceae) separated from the Peucedanum s.l.

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
BackgroundThe Peucedanum s.l. genus, the backbone member of subfamily Apioideae, includes many medically and economically important plants. Although previous studies have proved that the genus was not a natural taxonomic unit and taxonomists also ...

Molecular Phylogeny and Divergence Times of Deuterostome Animals [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology and Evolution, 2005
The phylogenetic relationships among deuterostome animals have been debated for many years, and a diversity of hypotheses have been proposed based on both morphological and molecular data. Here we have assembled sequences of 217 nuclear-encoded proteins to address specific questions concerning their relationships and times of origin.

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Molecular phylogeny and identification of agromyzid leafminers in China, with a focus on the worldwide genus Liriomyza (Diptera: Agromyzidae)

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2023
Leaf-mining flies (Diptera: Agromyzidae) are a diverse family of small-bodied insects that feed on living plant tissues as larvae. Various species in this family are considered globally invasive and have caused great agricultural economic losses.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Estimating Divergence Times in Large Phylogenetic Trees [PDF]

open access: yesSystematic Biology, 2007
A new method, PATHd8, for estimating ultrametric trees from trees with edge (branch) lengths proportional to the number of substitutions is proposed. The method allows for an arbitrary number of reference nodes for time calibration, each defined either as absolute age, minimum age, or maximum age, and the tree need not be fully resolved.

Bayesian mixed models and divergence time estimation of Chinese cavefishes (Cyprinidae : Sinocyclocheilus)

open access: yes, 2008
The genus Sinocyclocheilus is distributed in Yun-Gui Plateau and its surrounding region only, within more than 10 cave species showing different degrees of degeneration of eyes and pigmentation with wonderful adaptations.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.
