The internal transcribed spacer of nuclear ribosomal DNA in the gymnosperm Gnetum

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2005
We analyze the structure of the internal transcribed spacers ITS1 and ITS2 of the nuclear ribosomal DNA in the gymnosperm Gnetum, using a phylogenetic framework derived mainly from an intron in the nuclear low-copy LEAFY gene. Gnetum comprises 25-35 species in South America, Africa, and Asia, of which we sampled 16, each with two to six clones ...

Restriction analysis of the nontranscribed spacers of Xenopus laevis ribosomal DNA

Cell, 1977
Abstract We have studied sequence organization in the nontranscribed spacer regions of four cloned fragments of Xenopus laevis ribosomal DNA. Each clone contains a spacer of different length. The distribution of cleavage sites for several restriction endonucleases have been investigated in these spacers.

DNA sequence analyses of the ribosomal spacer regions in theTriticeae

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1988
Two regions of the ribosomal DNA (rDNA) were sequenced from a range of species from the tribeTriticeae. One region, the central spacer, was found to be more divergent in sequence than the other, the 18 S-spacer junction. Both regions contained sequences 20–30 bp long which were more highly conserved than the remainder of the region and their possible ...

Study of the 16S–23S ribosomal DNA internal spacer of Coxiella burnetii

European Journal of Epidemiology, 1997
The complete 16S-23S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of 22 isolates of the obligate intracellular bacterium Coxiella burnetii, the agent of Q fever, were amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequenced using an automated laser fluorescent DNA sequencer.

Authentication of Medicinal Dendrobium Species by the Internal Transcribed Spacer of Ribosomal DNA

Planta Medica, 2001
Herba Dendrobii (Shihu) is a commonly used Chinese medicine derived from the stem of several orchid species belonging to the genus Dendrobium. It is rather expensive and adulteration is frequent. Proper authentication of the medicinal species is necessary to protect consumers and support conservation measures.

Sequence organization of the spacer DNA in a ribosomal gene unit of Xenopus laevis

Cell, 1979
A detailed restriction map was constructed for a cloned Xenopus laevis rDNA fragment containing the nontranscribed spacer (NTS) and external transcribed spacer (ETS) together with a portion of both the 18S and 28S rRNA genes. The NTS was found to contain at least three distinct repetitious areas.

Structure of the central spacer region of extrachromosomal ribosomal DNA in Physarum polycephalum

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1982
Abstract We have analyzed the sequence organization of the central spacer region of the extrachromosomal ribosomal DNA from two strains of the acellular slime mold Physarum polycephalum . It had been inferred previously from electron microscopy that this region, which comprises about one third of the 60 kb ‡ palindromic rDNA, contains a complex ...

The Cucurbita maxima ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer has a complex structure

Gene, 1989
The nucleotide (nt) sequence of the 5508-nt intergenic spacer (IGS), between the 25S- and the 18S-coding regions of Cucurbita maxima rDNA, was determined. The fragment sequenced is 6142 nt long and includes 472 nt of 25S- and 162 nt of 18S-coding regions.

Genotyping of Trichophyton rubrum by analysis of ribosomal-DNA intergenic spacer regions

Mycopathologia, 2007
An attempt was made to explore the genotyping of Trichophyton rubrum (T. rubrum) and the relationship between genotype and geographical origin using ribosomal restriction endonuclease polymorphic analysis. The total DNA was extracted by cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The probe was amplified from part of the 18S, ITSI, 5.8S, and ITSII region of

X and Y chromosomal ribosomal DNA of drosophila: comparison of spacers and insertions

Cell, 1978
Abstract In Drosophila melanogaster, the genes coding for 18S and 28S ribosomal RNA (rDNA) are clustered at one locus each on the X and the Y chromosomes. We have compared the structure of rDNA at the two loci. The 18S and 28S rRNAs coded by the X and Y chromosomes are very similar and probably identical (Maden and Tartof, 1974). In D.
