The bacterial DNA sliding clamp, β-clamp: structure, interactions, dynamics and drug discovery [PDF]
AbstractDNA replication is a tightly coordinated event carried out by a multiprotein replication complex. An essential factor in the bacterial replication complex is the ring-shaped DNA sliding clamp, β-clamp, ensuring processive DNA replication and DNA repair through tethering of polymerases and DNA repair proteins to DNA.

Contributions of the individual hydrophobic clefts of the Escherichia coli sliding clamp to clamp loading, DNA replication and clamp recycling [PDF]
The homodimeric Escherichia coli beta sliding clamp contains two hydrophobic clefts with which proteins involved in DNA replication, repair and damage tolerance interact. Deletion of the C-terminal five residues of beta (beta(C)) disrupted both clefts, severely impairing interactions of the clamp with the DnaX clamp loader, as well as the replicative ...

Water skating: How polymerase sliding clamps move on DNA
Polymerase sliding clamps are ring‐shaped proteins that encircle duplex DNA and hold polymerases to DNA for high processivity during synthesis. The crystal structure of clamp‐DNA complex reveals that the DNA is highly tilted through the clamp with extensive interaction with the clamp inner surface.

We measure the cell‐specific responses of administering infusible ECM (iECM) in acute myocardial infarction (MI) across multiple timepoints. Using single‐nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, we measure macrophage activation, fibroblast remodeling, increased vascular development, lymphangiogenesis, cardioprotection, and neurogenesis ...

Sustainable Power Production in a Membrane-less and Mediator-less Wastewater Microbial Fuel Cell [PDF]
Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) fed with wastewater are currently considered a feasible strategy for production of renewable electricity at low cost. A membrane-less MFC with biological cathode was built from a compact wastewater treatment reactor.

A multilayered small‐caliber vascular scaffold combining electrospinning and 4‐axis printing is developed and biofunctionalized with marine sulfated polysaccharides from Holothuria tubulosa. The resulting construct exhibits enhanced hemocompatibility, tunable mechanical properties, and supports endothelial and smooth muscle cell adhesion and ...

The elemental mechanism of transcriptional pausing. [PDF]
Transcriptional pausing underlies regulation of cellular RNA biogenesis. A consensus pause sequence that acts on RNA polymerases (RNAPs) from bacteria to mammals halts RNAP in an elemental paused state from which longer-lived pauses can arise.

The Mre11-Rad50-Nbs1 complex mediates activation of TopBP1 by ATM [PDF]
The activation of ATR-ATRIP in response to double-stranded DNA breaks (DSBs) depends upon ATM in human cells and Xenopus egg extracts. One important aspect of this dependency involves regulation of TopBP1 by ATM.
