Heat-shock pretreatment inhibits sorbitol-induced apoptosis in K562, U937 and HeLa cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The aim of this study was to determine whether heat-shock pretreatment exerted a protective effect against sorbitol-induced apoptotic cell death in K562, U937 and HeLa cell lines and whether such protection was associated with a decreased cytochrome c

Pressure induced nucleus DNA fragmentation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, 2011
The present study was designed to investigate the impact of pressure on nuclear DNA integrity in viable cells of mouse blastocysts. The blastocysts of hybrid F1 females [(C57Bl/10 J × CBA-H);N = 15] aged 2-3 months were exposed into the pressure impulse lasting ~0.021 s and characterized by a positive pressure peak of ~76 mmHg.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.
