A DNA and restriction enzyme implementation of Turing machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Bacteria employ restriction enzymes to cut or restrict DNA at or near specific words in a unique way. Many restriction enzymes cut the two strands of double-stranded DNA at different positions leaving overhangs of single-stranded DNA. Two pieces of DNA may be rejoined or ligated if their terminal overhangs are complementary.

KMT2A degradation is observed in decitabine‐responsive acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that decitabine (DEC) not only degrades the DNA methyltransferase DNMT1 but also the leukemic driver lysine methyltransferase KMT2A likely due to structural similarity of the DNA‐binding CXXC domains. DEC influences KMT2A downstream processes and synergizes with menin inhibitor revumenib (REV) to decrease leukemic cell proliferation, and

Q fever outbreak in the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, Switzerland

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, EarlyView., 2014
Abstract Coxiella burnetii infection (Q fever) is a widespread zoonosis with low endemicity in Switzerland, therefore no mandatory public report was required. A cluster of initially ten human cases of acute Q fever infections characterized by prolonged fever, asthenia and mild hepatitis occurred in 2012 in the terraced vineyard of Lavaux ...

RFLP-kenzy: a new bioinformatics tool for in silico detection of key restriction enzyme in RFLP technique

open access: yesBeni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences
Background Today, several bioinformatics tools are available for analyzing restriction fragment length data. RFLP-kenzy is a new bioinformatic tool for identifying restriction key enzyme that cut at least 1 sequence and a maximum of n-1 sequence. Results

Model for how type I restriction enzymes select cleavage sites in DNA.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1988
Under appropriate conditions, digestion of phage T7 DNA by the type I restriction enzyme EcoK produces an orderly progression of discrete DNA fragments.

More powerful biomolecular computers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Biomolecular computers, along with quantum computers, may be a future alternative for traditional, silicon-based computers. Main advantages of biomolecular computers are massive parallel processing of data, expanded capacity of storing information and compatibility with living organisms (first attempts of using biomolecular computers in cancer therapy ...

Pulsed field gel electrophoresis of group A streptococci [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Here we describe the protocols to perform PFGE analysis of chromosomal DNA from the bacterial species Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococcus, GAS) after digestion with the restriction enzyme SmaI.

Cystatin A promotes the antitumor activity of T helper type 1 cells and dendritic cells in murine models of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

Testing the usage of ITS2 and 28S-D2 markers in identifying some species of Ammophila, Prionyx, and Sphex genera (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae)

open access: yesJournal of New Results in Science, 2015
In addition to traditional methods, investigation of rDNA gene regions with molecular techniques is widely used to identify insect taxa. In this study, the usability of the primers (TrITS2, 28S-D2) belonging to second expansion segment (D2) of the 28S ...
