Statistical Analysis of DNA Sequences

JNCI Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1988
Developments in the statistical analysis of DNA sequence data since 1984 are reviewed. Mathematical methods employing dynamic programming or incorporating Markov chain theory have been developed to search sequences for regions of similarity and to align sequences.

DNA sequence analysis and the computer

Biochemical Society Transactions, 1984
Analysis of DNA sequences has greatly aided our understanding of molecular biology and genetics. Nucleotide sequences have provided a wealth of information about gene structure and function. In addition to revealing the primary structure of genes, sequencing has uncovered the phenomena of overlapping genes, segmented genes, pseudogenes and a different ...

A Markov analysis of DNA sequences

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1983
We present a model by which we look at the DNA sequence as a Markov process. It has been suggested by several workers that some basic biological or chemical features of nucleic acids stand behind the frequencies of dinucleotides (doublets) in these chains.

The Preferential Mode Analysis of DNA Sequence

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1997
After reviewing approaches to the nucleotide correlation of DNA sequences the preferential mode analysis method is emphasized and discussed in detail. The preferred modes and poor modes in coding regions, as well as in introns, 5'-caps and 3'-tails are found through the statistical analysis of sequence data of all kinds of species in GenBank.

Analysis of rat repetitive DNA sequences

Biochemistry, 1978
Parameters of repetitive sequence organization have been measured in the rat genome. Experiments using melting, hydroxylapatite binding, and single strand specific nuclease digestion have been used to measure the number, length, and arrangement of repeated DNA sequences.

Power spectrum analysis for DNA sequences

Seventh International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2003. Proceedings., 2003
Certain biological functions are related to observe periodic behavior in DNA sequences, for example the period-3 behavior in exons. Appropriately, the field of digital signal processing has begun to contribute to the gene identification problem by allowing for discoveries in terms of these periodicities.

Computer analysis and manipulation of DNA sequences

Computers & Chemistry, 1983
Abstract Programs are described for the efficient analysis of large numbers of DNA sequences for the recurrence of particular short segments. These programs include routines for the determination of oligonucletide frequencies, and for the analysis for perfect and imperfect palindromic sequences with either mirror or two-fold symmetry, as well as for ...

Web Services for DNA Sequence Analysis

16th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA'05), 2006
The standardized interface to sequence analysis tools is highly desirable to integrate bioinformatics applications. Currently existing software packages and programming toolkits (BioPerl, BioJava, etc.) used by bioinformaticians for DNA sequence analysis have limited support for exchanging and reusing data.

Computer analysis of DNA and protein sequences

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1991
Some recent trends in the development of theoretical methods for DNA and protein sequence analysis are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the design of new databases, motif searches, sequence alignment algorithms and applications of neural networks.
