Endogenous Retroelement Activation is Implicated in Interferon‐α Production and Anti–Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Autoantibody Generation in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Endogenous retroelements (EREs) stimulate type 1 interferon (IFN‐I) production but have not been explored as potential interferonogenic triggers in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We investigated ERE expression in early RA (eRA), a period in which IFN‐I levels are increased.

A unified framework to analyze transposable element insertion polymorphisms using graph genomes

open access: yesNature Communications
Transposable elements are ubiquitous mobile DNA sequences generating insertion polymorphisms, contributing to genomic diversity. We present GraffiTE, a flexible pipeline to analyze polymorphic mobile elements insertions.

Atherosclerotic Plaque Progression and Incident Cardiovascular Events in a 10‐Year Prospective Study of Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: The Impact of Persistent Cardiovascular Risk Factor Target Attainment and Sustained DORIS Remission

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death in individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We assessed atherosclerotic plaque progression and incident cardiovascular events in patients with SLE over a 10‐year follow‐up.

Coral Restoration in the Omics Era: Development of Point‐of‐Care Tools for Monitoring Disease, Reproduction, and Thermal Stress

open access: yesBioEssays, EarlyView.
Shown are different multi‐omics approaches that are used to identify potential biomarkers of coral health and disease. The integration of these data streams, using cutting‐edge molecular diagnostic technologies, including colorimetric dipsticks, lateral flow assays, and colorimetric LAMP (loop‐mediated isothermal amplification), holds the promise to ...

Characterization of large transgene integrations in Chinese hamster ovary cells using a bioengineered mammalian transposase

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract We present the first use of a bioengineered mammalian transposase system derived from Myotis lucifugus (bMLT) for integration of expression vectors into the CHO genome, focusing on GFP and trastuzumab production. Initially, CHO‐K1 cells are transfected with a GFP reporter and varying amounts of bMLT DNA or mRNA.

Process intensification of the baculovirus expression vector system using a perfusion process with a low multiplicity of infection at high cell concentrations

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract The emergence of new viruses and the spread of existing pathogens necessitate efficient vaccine production methods. The baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS) is an efficient and scalable system for subunit and virus‐like particle vaccine production and gene therapy vectors.

Long Term Weight Cycling Affects Fecal Microbiota of Mice

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 66, Issue 23, December 2022., 2022
Fighting obesity through dieting is not always sustained and results in a subsequent weight gain, a phenomenon referred to as weight cycling. We determined whether weight cycling affects mouse fecal bacteria on a long‐term basis. Compared to continuous High Fat (HF) or Low Fat (LF) diets, cyclic diet specifically alters the composition and function of ...
